Garry Tonon won the 16-man welterweight Eddie Bravo Invitational (EBI) tournament last night and took home $20,000 in the process.

The New Jersey native submitted four opponents to be crowned champion. Tonon was a late replacement for his injured teammate Eddie Cummings, who was out with a torn meniscus.

Tonon’s path to the $20k grand prize saw him take out Stephen Martinez in the opening round via bulldog choke, Javi Vasquez in the quarter finals (by heel hook), Lachlan Giles in the semis (via armbar) and beating Rafael Domingoes in the finals with a heel hook. Tonon won all of his matches by submission in the regulation time, thereby earning him the maximum possible prize money of $20,000.

The EBI is a tournament devised by famous black belt Eddie Bravo, using a unique ruleset designed to promote submissions. Watch the video below for an explanation.
