The second day of the 2016 Abu Dhabi Grand Slam World Jiu-Jitsu Tour Los Angeles went down today, albeit the brackets were smaller there was still plenty of elite level action coming from black belts like Erberth Santos, Paulo Miyao, Murillo Santana, John Combs and more.
John Combs wasted no time submitting Sergio Rios in the final of the 83kg black belt division. As Rios shot in with a lazy takedown attempt Combs latched onto his neck with his patented guillotine and forced Rios to tap just thirty seconds into the match. It was one of the most impressive finishes of the day.
Both Paulo and Joao Miyao made it to the finals of the 67kg black belt division and due to UAEJJF's no closeout rule the two were forced to compete. While some expected the twin phenoms to phone it in, they instead decided to treat the fans in attendance with a technical display of modern jiu-jitsu. The end came via an armbar, securing the gold for Joao.
Atos Brown Belt Heather Rafferty had a great day, submitting Gegi Walker in the semi finals and putting up a whooping 28 unanswered points against 10th Planet's Lila Smadja. She repeatedly mounted the Eddie Bravo prospect and even came close to finishing the match with what looked like a tight arm triangle attempt.
UAEJJF golden boy Erberth Santos rebounded from a tough day in the Gi with an impressive performance against Unity's Murillo Santana in the finals of the 92kg black belt division. Santos outscored Santana 6-0 to take home the gold.
