The Five Super League returns on December 3 with a stacked welterweight (170lb) tournament that brings together eight incredibly tough (and entertaining) black belts.

We break down the eight men invited to compete in this pro tournament. The Five Super League also features over 20 supporting superfights with competitors from every rank. The event goes down in San Diego, but you can watch it all live or on-demand on FloGrappling.

Dillon Danis

Alliance/Marcelo Garcia rep Dillon Danis is well-known for his all-out style of attack and never-say-die attitude. A submission hunter who can fight from top and bottom, Danis is a guy who will turn any match with him into a war.

Sean Roberts

Repping Ralph Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, Sean Roberts was in the brown belt class of 2011, coming into the public eye around the same time as athletes such as Keenan Cornelius, Garry Tonon, AJ Agazarm, and many others. The Five Super League marks Roberts' return to elite BJJ competition after a short hiatus.

Bill Cooper

One of the most unorthodox American black belts, Paragon athlete Bill Cooper's style ensures a level of uncertainty for any opponent. Will he pull guard? Will he pass? Will he launch flying attacks or rolling leg locks? You never know, which is half the fun of watching him compete.

Marcelo Mafra

Checkmat's Marcelo Mafra is a tough-as-you-like competitor with plenty of experience. Even though he qualifies for masters divisions, the Brazilian black belt is still up there with the best in the world, as we saw when he won the IBJJF 2016 middleweight no-gi world title.

John Combs

What a year it's been for John Combs. Promoted to black belt in June, the IBJJF Pan champion and former wrestler is another grappler who prefers to leave it all out there on the mat than in the hands of the judges. With experience of fighting under the bright lights of Copa Podio and Fight To Win, Combs will feel at home on the stage come Dec. 3.

Brian Morizi

A Clark Gracie team black belt, Brian Morizi is a tough competitor gi or no-gi, and just like his mentor, he's got a mean omoplata attack. With Clark Gracie Jiu-Jitsu based in San Diego, it's probable that Morizi will bring plenty of support and an extra boost of motivation.

Michael Liera Jr.

Atos technician Michael Liera Jr. is an experienced face on the tournament scene and hails from one of the best competition gyms in the world. His dangerous guard game will present a challenge for any opponent.

Edwin Najmi

Pan champion and World silver medalist Edwin Najmi has had a standout first year as a competitive black belt. The Gracie Barra representative has developed his game beyond the flying attacks he was once known for and is a threat from every position.
