Things have started to heat up between Dan Henderson and Jon Jones as their collision at Submission Underground 2 approaches.

The former UFC light heavyweight king and the MMA legend were initially slated to square off at UFC 151 back in 2012, but Henderson suffered an injury and was forced out of the bout. Henderson's removal from the headlining tilt was the catalyst to a chaotic turn which led to the UFC cancelling a scheduled event for the first time in the promotion's history.

Jones ultimately bore the brunt of the UFC's ire for not accepting a short notice replacement bout against Chael Sonnen, and this put an eventual showdown with the former two-divisional Pride champion as a fixture on the pound-for-pound king's radar.

Therefore, when the opportunity to face Henderson in a submission grappling match arose, Jones not only jumped at the chance, but launched a few verbal jabs in the storied knockout artist's direction.

"I've faced a lot of great wrestlers and all of them had better credentials than I have," Jones told FloCombat. "It's always the same story. They say, 'I'm going to outwrestle Jon Jones,' and it's always me putting them on their asses. I'm excited to go out there and do it one more time."

"Dan Henderson just retired from MMA after losing a fight to Michael Bisping for the world title, and I'm sure it would make him feel a lot better to come out and beat someone who has never lost in martial arts. I know he's going to have a little bit of a chip on his shoulder, and I'm going to make sure I stay undefeated."

Although Henderson has traditionally been a man who lets his fists do the talking, the comments from Jones appear to have hit a nerve with the 46-year-old former Olympian.

Henderson took to the keys at Champions.co to send his upcoming opponent a stern message, and in doing so, gave Jones an idea of just how fierce the coming storm will be when the cage door closes at Submission Underground 2 on Dec. 11 in Portland, Ore.

"Now, onto Jon Jones who I will be facing at Submission Underground 2 next month," Henderson said. "I saw some interview he did where he said that he'd put high level wrestlers on their ass and planned to do the same to me. Sit down, kid. You're letting your mouth write checks you can't possibly make good on. I'll be taking one of your arms home with me.

"I've got a few favorite submission moves, but I'm pretty partial to armbars and leglocks. Vitor did a pretty good job with an armbar on Jonny four or five years back. I plan on going the extra mile to get the job done."
