Leandro Lo wasn’t the only one to enjoy the taste of success at the IBJJF 2017 European Championships: his student Gustavo Batista also won double gold.

A brown belt, Batista is known by his nickname ‘Braguinha’. He was promoted to brown belt shortly after the World Championships in 2016.

Batista took double European gold in Lisbon, Portugal, winning the medium heavyweight and openweight divisions. He defeated Norwegian athletes Vegard Arentz Randeberg and Tommy Langaker in the weight and absolute, respectively.

This marks the third consecutive year he has performed this feat, winning double gold as a purple belt in 2016 and at blue belt in 2015.
