Tensions rise in absolute match in Rio

The IBJJF Rio Fall Open no-gi divisions ran on Sunday April 3 and even though the temperature is cooling off in the Southern Hemisphere city, blood was boiling over on the mats.

Erberth Santos faced off with featherweight Alexandre Vieira in the absolute division, and after being submitted with a choke/crank from the back Vieira jumped up and struck Santos, later striking him again after they had exited the mat. Santos did not react to the attack.

The Brazilian Top Team black belt later apologized in a video posted to Facebook, claiming that he reacted after he felt Erberth had intentionally struck him with elbows during the match.

Erberth posted to Instagram giving his side of the story:
Jiu-Jitsu is a contact sport, during a match I don't control my strength or explosiveness, I am determined to dominate and finish my opponent. I'm much heavier than Alexandre Vieira and we all know that you can get hurt either in training or competition. Anyway, I know he must be sorry he attacked me, but I do not want him to be judged, after all I've already made a lot of mistakes in this life and I do not want anyone to feel the pain of being tried by people on the internet. Leave it to IBJJF / CBJJ.

AJ Agazarm wins fourth European No-Gi black belt title

The slap that occurred during his absolute match with Muslim Patsarigov overshadowed the fact that Gracie Barra's AJ Agazarm won his fourth European No-Gi black belt title, beating out EBI veteran Ashley Williams in the final.
