12 Early Match Ups From Day 2 Of ADCC East Coast Trials To Get Excited For

Day one is in the books at East Coast Trials and the top athletes in each division have advanced to day two, specifically the top 32 for men's and top 16 for women's. These brackets are so deep that there are tons of matches we are looking forward to from the opening bouts on Sunday, all the way through to the finals.

Here are one dozen of our favorite matches happening before the quarterfinals. All action is scheduled to go down live on FloGrappling, starting at 9am EST.

Men's -66kg

Ethan Crelinsten vs Julian Espinosa

Ethan is your top seed and has looked the part through day one, winning with all subs so far. Espinosa has been on a heater in 2023 though, and is ranked in the top-15 worldwide at 145lbs. This would be a second round bout tomorrow if they win their opening matches.

Gianni Grippo vs Dorian Olivarez

Gianni and Dorian could also meet early tomorrow. Grippo is an ADCC Worlds veteran who has competed against and defeated a who's who of the weight class. However, Olivarez has been surging through ADCC Opens on the back of a aggressive wrestling style and positional game. Could the teen Dorian knock off Gianni?

Men's -77kg

Kody Steele vs Chris Wojcik

We are due for an early rematch of the last Trials's bronze medal match. There, Wojcik won in an upset. Will Kody get revenge here and advance? Winner gets Nicky Ryan.

Jon Satava vs Pierre-Olivier Leclerc

Jon Satava is a Marcelo Garcia black belt who has competed at ADCC Worlds before and aims to punch his ticket again. In his way in the second round will be B-Team's Canadian LeClerc, who is the top ranked ADCC Opens athlete.

Kieran Kichuk vs John Combs

Kieran Kichuk and John Combs both advanced through day one without hitting the full time limit, all submissions. Who will hold the upper hand between the leg locker and the guillotine expert?

Max Hanson vs Oliver Taza

Max was pegged coming into the tournament as someone who could open a lot of eyes. He'll have the chance to do that when he takes on veteran Oliver Taza, who just took silver at European Trials and is always in the mix to win.

Men's -88kg

David Garmo vs Angelo Claiborne

Angelo Claiborne is a well-regarded black belt from TLI who just hasn't had the exposure in no-gi that some in the bracket have had. David Garmo is a no-gi specialist who will be a great test on where Angelo stands in this field.

Men's -99kg

Paul Ardilla vs Diashi Goto

Paul Ardilla stays winning ADCC Trials, and he advanced off the back off a quick footlock in round one. His day two doesn't start easy either, with a match in the second round against Daishi Goto, one of the darkhorses of the bracket who has been active on the Opens scene.

Michael Pixley vs Adam Bradley

Pixley worked his a-game in his day one match and darced his way to the top-32. In the second round on Sunday he figures to have Adam Bradley, WNX veteran and B-Team escape artist who should prove to be a tough test for the D2 NCAA Champion wrestler

Women's -55kg

Jasmine Rocha vs Jasmine Johnson

We got a Jasmine battle early tomorrow, when Johnson takes on the favored Rocha. However, Jasmine Johnson has already taken out a top-15 ranked grappler, Emily Nicholson (recent IBJJF No-Gi Pans medalist) to get here so she has a lot of momentum on her side.

Women's -65kg

Morgan Black vs Sheliah Lindsey

We're looking at top-15 matchup early at -65 when Sheilah Lindsay and Morgan Black face off. Morgan won on day one with a 50 second submission, so she should be very fresh for their bout.
