Dillon Danis and Danaher Death Squad Almost Come To Blows At ADCC Trials
Edit: An earlier version of this article attributed the quote 'Why don't you just fight hime then Dillon' to Garry Tonon. That was incorrect. In actuality the quote was 'Why don't you have a match with him then Dillon' and has been adjusted accordingly.
It started during the 77kg final at the ADCC North American Trials.
Marcelo Garcia Academy's Mansher Khera was taking on Renzo Gracie Academy brown belt Oliver Taza in what turned out to be one of the most entertaining scraps of the whole tournament.
Gordon Ryan and Dillon Danis were both in their respective fighter's corner and at times seemed to toss some chippy remarks at each other throughout the match. Taza repeatedly tried to tangle up Khera's legs and look for heelhooks, but to his dismay Khera never looked in danger and ended up winning the match 3-0.
'Munch' was declared the winner and that's when things went sour.
Dillon declined to shake Gordon's hand. The two have traded barbs on social media all year so it's no surprise there isn't any love between the two elite black belts. However after the match had ended another of Taza's teammates, Garry Tonon yelled out 'Why don't you have a match with him then Dillon'. Speaking to Dillon about Gordon's many facebook call-outs.
From there Dillon stormed the mat challenging both Gordon and Garry to a fight right then and there. ADCC officials as well as a few of Danis' teammates had to restrain the MGA black belt but not before he hurled a few expletives at the opposing corner.
Had the ADCC officials not been there we may have seen the anticipated MMA debuts of both Tonon and Danis. But alas cooler heads prevailed and the tournament continued to run.
If it wasn't clear before it sure is now, there is some real beef between these two teams and it seems like tensions are boiling over. Would you like to see Gordon Ryan vs Dillon Danis? Who do you think wins?
