Roger Gracie Says It’s Not About The Draw, But It ‘Had To Be Buchecha’

Roger Gracie Says It ‘Had’ To Be Buchecha

Hinting that retirement is on the horizon, Roger Gracie said that it took somebody like Marcus ‘Buchecha’ Almeida to bring him back to jiu-jitsu.

“What motivates me to come back and put myself in a test against the best, it’s not because we fought before and had a draw, it’s nothing to do with that,” says Gracie.

With Gracie away from jiu-jitsu for seven years (save for two superfights, including the aforementioned draw against Buchecha), it took a special opponent to interest him.

And Gracie says that he’s looking for nothing but big matches as he winds down his career.

I think it’s more because I’ve been looking to return for almost a last match against someone; he’s the best, he’s on top, it has to be him. There’s no other reason to be anyone else.
