Romulo Barral Announces Retirement At Worlds 2016

Watch: Romulo Barral Announces Retirement

Gracie Barra veteran Romulo Barral has announced his retirement from competing at Worlds following his silver medal to Leandro Lo.

Barral tied his black belt around Leandro Lo's waist at the end of their match in an emotional display that drew the only standing ovation of the weekend.

I've been thinking about this for five years, it's a tough decision. It's a pleasure to be here fighting against the best in the world.

I'm just emotional because this is the last time I will step on the mat at the Worlds. I'm happy with what I did on my journey.

My job in the World Championships is done. It felt good.

In honor of Romulo’s amazing competition career, which saw him conquer four world championships and many other major titles, we present Romulo’s last submission win, free to watch – a cross collar choke over the very tough Patrick Gaudio at the 2016 IBJJF World Championships.
