Talent Scouting Report: Best Brown Belts At IBJJF Sao Paulo Open

Scouting Report: Top Brown Belts In Sao Paulo

The weekend of Sept 17-18, 2016, I travelled down to the IBJJF Sao Paulo International Open. Even though jiu-jitsu has a rich history in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo has overtaken Rio as the current hub for jiu-jitsu in Brazil.

Sao Paulo (both the city and state) boasts stronger competition teams, such as Fabio Gurgel's Alliance, Leandro Lo's NS Brotherhood, Zenith, Cicero Costha PSLPB, Ryan Gracie Team, Atos, and more.

There are also more tournaments (especially those with cash prizes), and the majority of breakout talents seem to originate from Sao Paulo-based gyms.

Take a look at my report in which I profile a few standout athletes from the tournament and see for yourself.
