Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Black Belt Divisions Breakdown: Who's Going To Win?
Both the male and female divisions are stacked for the first ever Abu Dhabi Grand Slam. Take a look at our breakdown of the action below.

62kg Black Belt Male Gi

The 62kg division is one of the most sparse of the event with only four entrants, but don't miss the chance to watch some of the best small men in jiu-jitsu put on a show. We've profiled Hiago Gama before as someone looking to make waves and Tomouki Hashimoto is a Japanese standout. A match between those two would be unmissable.

69KG Black Belt Male Gi

Three names jump off the page in the 69KG black bet division: Isaque Paiva, Paulo Miyao and Thiago Bravo. Thiago regularly cleans up his divisions at regional UAEJJF events and Isaque is a multiple-time IBJJF South American champion who just took gold at the Rio Grand Slam event in November. Paulo Miyao is well.. Paulo Miyao! Extremely excited to see how the 6-minute rounds push the pace for this lighter weight class.

77KG Black Belt Male Gi

Things really start to get interesting in the 77KG black belt division, with Edwin Najmi, Marcio Andre, and Roberto Satoshi gunning for gold. They are some of the most dynamic athletes in the game and are on a collision course to meet up in in the later rounds. Our pick is Edwin vs Marcio in the semis and the winner of that to face Satoshi in the finals. Don't miss this division - guaranteed fireworks.

85KG Black Belt Male Gi

Gabriel Arges has stated that he is on a mission to be Number 1 in the UAEJJF ranking, but he's got some stiff competition in his way this weekend: Jaime Canuto, Faisal Al Ketbi off the UAE, Matheus Souza and more are all hungry to take home gold in Abu Dhabi. There is an excellent chance of Gabriel facing GF Team firecracker Jaime Canuto and the winner of that taking on Faisal in the finals.

94KG Black Belt Male Gi

This division was all about the growing rivalry between Felipe Pena and Xande Riberio, but Pean couldn't make it out there in time and so all signs point to Ribeiro taking the gold.

110KG Black Belt Male Gi

Luiz Panza finished Jose Junior with a vicious ankle lock at World Pro, and it's hard to imagine anything different this time around even though Junior has the advantage of fighting in front of his adopted hometown crowd.

Female 55kg Brown Black

This division is loaded with killers: Mayasa Bastos and Thamires Aquino are right alongside their old teammate Talita Alencar, who's currently in second place in the overall rankings.

Female 62KG Brown Black

Bia Mesquita and Luiza Monteiro will likely continue their professional rivalry this weekend at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam. The two seasoned competitors are on opposite ends of the brackets with byes and are nearly guaranteed to be in the finals against one another.

Female 70Kg Brown Black

Ana Carolina Vieira takes on a division entirely composed of women based in the UAE. Not sure what to expect here but we are always excited to watch "Baby" do her thing.

Female 90kg Brown Black

Nathiely Jesus is the biggest name in the 90kg division - she's been actively chasing the UAEJJF #1 all year and looks to further solidify her position this weekend.
