Both men have excellent standup and were not afraid to trade throws. Eventually the tide swung in Barbosa's favor as he secured top position and worked some heavy pressure and passing sequences. The end of the match saw Barbosa and Schrock trading toehold attempts, but it was clear that Barbosa had done enough throughout the match to earn the victory and win the belt.
The event was not without some unexpected events though.
Leandro Lo was knocked out in the first round by Alliance veteran Tarsis Humphrehys. The match saw Leandro working his open guard, but though he saw several sweep attempts nearly land, he simply could not generate any offense. Tarsis was able to dictate the general pace and rhythm of the match with his heavy top pressure which was enough o earn the win from the judges.
Other weirdness occurred when last-minute replacement Marcel Louzado was DQ'd - Both Lucas and X were given stalling penalties in the beginning of the match, but it was determined that Louzado was using the perimeter to avoid takedowns and thus was given his second penalty (which results in DQ under Five Grappling rules).
