There were some HUGE upsets over the weekend, with more than a few big names falling out of the running on both Saturday and Sunday.

The featherweight division saw two notable athletes lose to hungry up-and-comers.

Alexandre Vieira of Brazilian Top Team beat Atos veteran Bruno Frazatto via choke from the back. Vieira has an unorthodox game and a lethal attacking sequence from the crucifix position.

Shane Jamil Hill Taylor of Team Lloyd Irvin beat Gianni Grippo via decision in a close match. Grippo is still under 25 but considered a veteran in the ranks, while Taylor only got his black belt last year. The youngster from Maryland impressed with a smart strategy throughout the day, advancing to the semi-finals and ultimately taking bronze.

In the light featherweight division, European champion and last year's Pan roosterweight champion Michael Musumeci lost a decision to brand new black belt Cleber Sousa of Almeida Jiu-jitsu. Sousa only got promoted to black belt in December, along with teammate Bianca Basilio. This is the first tournament Musumeci has entered as a black belt where he has not made it to the podium.

Isaque Bahiense shocked the crowd when he defeated Romulo Barral in a hard-fought and contentious middleweight match. The Alliance youngster went after the Gracie Barra veteran and employed his trademark explosive style. Barral ended up injuring his arm with around three minutes left in the match but somehow managed to continue. Bahiense got his black belt in December and his win over Barral saw him go through to the final where he ultimately took silver.
