Two of the brightest prospects in sport jiu-jitsu earned promotions last week.

Danielle Alvarez and Kennedy Maciel have been among the most decorated competitors at their respective divisions for years and now they begin their journey at a new rank.

Danielle Alvarez - Black Belt

The first female to be promoted to black belt under her father and 3rd degree black belt Danny Alvarez, Danielle has won countless tournaments at brown belt. Most notably she became the 2016 World Champion in the feather weight category.

At 22 years of age Alvarez is sure to be an exciting addition to the elite ranks of black belt. Matchups with Talita Alencar, Mackenzie Dern and more await her.

Kennedy Maciel - Brown Belt

Maciel earns his promotion to brown belt just a few weeks after his impressive performance at the IBJJF Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championships. After losing in the first round at the 2016 tournament 'Little Cobrinha' rallied in 2017 to add another championship to his already impressive resume that includes gold at Worlds and Europen Championships.

Maciel's father, the legendary Rubens 'Cobrinha' Charles promoted the young star last week ahead of Worlds where he will no doubt look to make an impact on a crowded feather weight division.

Stay tuned this week for an exclusive documentary from the 2017 Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championships!
