Copa Podio Announces Ramos-Castillo In New Format No-Gi Challenge Match
In a breakaway from the trend of no-time limit, no points submission grappling matches, Copa Podio has announced a dynamic new concept that will debut on their next event.

Davi Ramos, 2015 ADCC 77kg champion, will face off against MMA fighter Danny ‘Last Call’ Castillo in a special no-gi challenge match as part of the Copa Podio Middleweight Grand Prix on July 9.

The match, which will take place at 84kg, will be held over three 6-minute rounds. "Instead of making a fight with no time limit or with a duration of 10 minutes, I decided to split a 18-minute battle into three rounds,” says Jeferson Mayca, president of Copa Podio.

The intent is to bring more dynamism to the fighting, which sometimes slowed down in other formats. We want to provide the public with an intense fight from start to finish.

The match is not submission-only as it will use points, but they won't use advantages.

The Copa Podio Middleweight Grand Prix will take place on July 9 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The winner this match will go on to face the current title holder Gregor Gracie

Ramos is a black belt from Team Atos who regularly competes both gi and no gi. He is a three-time Copa Podio veteran.

Danny Castillo is a well-known MMA fighter from Alpha Male with a record of 17-10-0. A black belt in jiu-jitsu, he competed in a special no-gi match in a 2014 Copa Podio event, submitting the Jordanian grappler Haider Rasheed with an arm triangle in just over seven minutes.
