Yuri Simoes Signs for Fight To Win Pro Main Event with Dean Lister, July 23

Super heavyweight black belt star Yuri Simoes will face veteran grappler and leg lock specialist Dean Lister in a special no-gi match at Fight To Win Pro 8 in San Francisco, scheduled for July 23.
The no-gi submission-only super fight, which will be one of the principal bouts of Fight To Win’s SF show, is a rematch of sorts.
Lister and Simoes met in the absolute division at ADCC 2015 in Sao Paulo, with Simoes winning on points after what some believe was a controversial call.
“I beat him in ADCC, got my hand raised,” says Lister. “Then the judges suddenly claimed there were negative points and made us have overtime. It’s the only match in my life where I feel I was truly ripped off by the judges.”
While there’s no bad blood, there’s definitely unfinished business between them and fans can expect a interesting clash.
The event comes one week after the proposed Metamoris 7 event. Simoes has withdrawn from the event in favor of the match with Lister.
“This means I will not be competing at Metamoris. I want to apologize to my opponent Matheus Diniz, and wish him good luck next week at Worlds,” says Simoes.
Yuri Simoes, who trains in San Jose with Caio Terra, is a transplant to Northern California from his home in Rio de Janeiro. “I’m excited to show everyone that the Bay Area has some of the best jiu-jitsu in the world,” he says.
