What's the most extreme place you've evert trained jiu-jitsu? At the top of a mountain? Underwater?

A group of Royal Marines may have laid claim to have rolled in one of the most unique places yet, by training in a tiger enclosure at a British zoo!

On Wednesday August 31 the Royal Marines Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Team helped dig a new pool inside a tiger enclosure at Dartmoor Zoo.

The functional training session of shoveling dirt preceded a session of gi and no-gi grappling before the tigers were let loose again.

Dartmoor Zoo is located about 40 miles from the Royal Marines' base in the county of Devon.

The Royal Marines use the vast national park of Dartmoor for their notorious training exercises and selection process, considered among the most rigorous armed forces training in the world.

Jiu-jitsu in the Royal Marines

Grappling and self defense have long been part of the Royal Marines' hand-to-hand training. Recently, the Royal Marines formed a jiu-jitsu team with world champion Andre Galvao as their head coach.

The ADCC absolute and superfight champion oversees the training for the British green berets, and the sport has been officially recognized by the Corps.
