Gracie Barra black belt Edwin Najmi topped off a huge year by winning the Five Grappling Super League. Najmi faced three opponents to win the belt, beating Bill Cooper by darce choke, Marcelo Mafra by decision, and submitting John Combs in the final with an estima lock.
Najmi, who only started training jiu-jitsu in 2009, was promoted to black belt about a year and a half ago. Since then, he has won gold at the IBJJF Pans and silver at Worlds.
All these guys are more experienced than me, but you got to believe that you're the best. My confidence is really high right now, I just went out there and went after them. Felipe Pena told me, if you ever feel a guy is technically better than you, you just got to make it a war. That's what I did, you saw me dragging guys back into the center of the mat to fight.
