Twenty-four of the 33 matches resulted in a submission finish, with only nine bouts decided by ride time in EBI OT.

Out of 14 bracket matches, only three went to overtime, and every match ended in submission. Both the men and women’s matches showcased wrestling, traditional styles of passing and guardwork, along with both opportunistic and manufactured leg locks.

    In the promotion’s 23rd edition, Toro Cup returned to Durham, NC, pitting some of the Tarheel State’s top talent head-to-head in a 30-bout superfight card. The event employed a ruleset similar to ADCC, where the first five minutes of each non-championship bout serve as a sub-only period, with points counting in the final five minutes of each bout. In the main event, black belts Maia Matalon and Lydia Bergamasco clashed, but Malton dominated. The event promoters donated half of the ticket sale revenue; Toro Cup 23 raised $3,110 for its charitable efforts.

    Last Friday, Jessa Khan had a dominant performance against black belt Kaori Hernandez at her IBJJF GP superfight. She started the match by coming up from the guard with crazy dog passing grips, passing immediately and worked her way quickly to mount, putting 17 points on the board before the first half of the match expired. The rest of the match was one way traffic, and Khan eventually snagged a triangle armbar while maintaining full control of the mat.
