Baleia's Breakdown: Hulk vs Cyborg III Preview

Jul 30, 2020

In the sport of no gi or submission grappling, styles and fights tend to differ according to weight classes and especially with techniques. It is not uncommon to see some matches end in draws with little to no action either because the two athletes respected each others game too much OR they were at such a high level that they nullified each other.

But, in the heavier divisions, we have been treated with some absolute wars over the recent years. And every once in a while we get to see some matches and rivalries that remind us of the golden era of the sport where takedown, passing and submission was the golden standard route to victory.

In the last two years, it seemed inevitable that clashes between Atos’ Lucas "Hulk" Barbosa and Fight Sports Leader Roberto "Cyborg" Abreu would happen. As both men have consistently reached the sports pinnacle in both Gi and no Gi competition.

They faced off twice before and will do it again a third time this weekend at Who’s number one.

But in order to understand or predict how their upcoming match will play out, we need to take a look back and see what happened in the past.
