After a busy two-year period of qualifying competitions, the International Judo Federation (IJF) confirmed the final list of men and women who will represent their countries at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The IJF announced that this year’s Games will see a record number of participants, with 136 countries and 389 competitors vying for medals.

This is a new participation record for judo at the Olympic Games, with the last record being London 2012 with 135 countries and 387 athletes.

Three nations will be represented by a full team of seven men and seven women: Japan, France and the host country of the Games, Brazil. 27 countries will be present in Rio with a minimum of 5 athletes.

Notably, this year the International Olympic Committee (IOC) created a refugee Olympic team called Team Refugee Olympic Athletes. Three judoka will compete under the Team ROA banner, including two athletes from the Democratic Republic of Congo and one from Syria.
