The 2016-2017 Abu Dhabi Grand Slam World Jiu-Jitsu Tour season has begun, with the first event on the calendar going down in Los Angeles. 

The event will feature both gi and no-gi divisions, with many top competitors signed up to compete for generous cash prizes and a shot at the end of year ranking bonus. 

The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam LA begins on FloGrappling at 11am PST September 4, and goes until September 5. 



"I've trained hard for the past few weeks for Abu Dhabi Grand Slam, it is an important competition now in the jiu-jitsu calendar, so I have taken it seriously, just like last year. It's great to be back here in L.A for the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam and I hope to come back again for the next event in Tokyo," said Erberth Santos.

"I feel amazing, it's fantastic to be here, thank you Abu Dhabi for this organization, very professional. I am very happy and excited to fight tomorrow. If you see the list of the names in the black belt category, this is the best BJJ players in the world. That is why I am here and I will be back again for sure for the next Grand Slam event in Tokyo," said Romulo Barral. 

Black belts registered to compete include Mikey Musumeci, Joao Miyao, Kim Terra, Isaac Doederlein, Paulo Miyao, Victor Silverio, John Combs, Vitor Oliveira, Edwin Najmi, Gabriel Arges, Lucas 'Hulk' Barbosa, Otavio Sousa, Erberth Santos, Xande Ribeiro, Ricardo Evangelista, Mahamed Aly, Luiza Panza, Jose Junior and Igor Silva. 

Female black belts signed up to compete include Tammi Musumeci, Luiza Monteiro, Nathiely Jesus, Talita Alencar, Amanda Loewen, and Pati Fontes among others. 

Brown belts to look out for include Gutemberg Pereira, Dante Leon, Horlando Monteiro, Catherine Fuhro Perret, Mayssa Bastos and more.
