Weekend Recap: Lo Closes In On Erberth, Tayane Takes Double Gold, Pena Wins
Leandro Lo won double gold at the Salvador Fall Open this past weekend, just one week after his epic double gold-winning performance at the Brazilian Nationals. With those victories, Lo has overtaken Erberth Santos in the IBJJF ranking.

Going into the weekend Lo had 1,389 points. With 27 for gold in his weight division and 40.5 for absolute gold (a total of 67.5), he now has 1,456.5, making him No. 1.

Santos currently is in second place with 1,412.5 points. He is signed up for the San Diego International Open on May 13, which could offer him 67.5 points, putting him back in the lead.

Registration capacity for this event is full, meaning that Lo is unable to sign up to meet Santos once again. If Santos competes, he is almost guaranteed to move back into top spot.

However, Lo could still sign up for the Curitiba Fall International Open on May 20 (although this is just one week before Worlds). Registration closes on May 12.

The main question is how bad is Santos' foot that he injured at the ACB Jiu-Jitsu GP in Poland this past weekend? Will it prevent him from competing in San Diego? The risk of further injuring it just two weeks before Worlds may be too great, although the prospect of winning $15,000 means he might take that chance.

To break it down:
• Lo has 1,456.5 points; Santos has 1412.5.
• Santos is signed up for San Diego Open, which could get him 67.5 more points and back into the No. 1 spot.
• Lo is yet to sign up for another tournament between now and Worlds.
• Santos' foot injury means his ability to get those points is in doubt.

Tayane Does The Double

A week after getting double gold in Sao Paulo at the Brazilian Nationals, Tayane Porfirio did the same at the Salvador Fall Open.
