Mongolia is one of the most grappling-crazy nations on earth, with wrestling being the national sport since the times of antiquity. Following recent Olympic success, that is starting to change thanks to the growth of judo.
The video features three figures: a rising star, the godfather of judo in the country, and a respected Olympian given a chance to visit the nation.
Mongolian judo hopeful Byambadorj Dashdavaa explains about traditional Mongolian culture and describes his love for the "gentle way," saying that judo helps develop qualities such as discipline, resilience, and intelligence.
The president of Mongolia himself Battulga Khaltmaa is a lifelong practitioner of the sport, being a member of the Mongolian wrestling team. He is also president of the Mongolian Judo Association, and saw Mongolia's first Olympic champions crowned at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Greek judo star Ilias Iliadis, an Olympic champion and three-time world champion, can be seen in the video training judo with Mongolian youngsters.
The video, produced by the International Judo Federation, is one of the ongoing series Judo For The World, which has visited many nations around the world.
