Mica Galvão Accepts USADA Sanction, Stripped Of 2022 IBJJF World Title
The youngest-ever IBJJF World Champion was stripped of the title he earned in June 2022, and took a one-year suspension for a doping violation.
USADA announced today that 2022 IBJJF World Champion Mica Galvao has been stripped of his title, and has accepted a one-year suspension for a violation of anti-doping rules.
Galvao tested positive for clomiphene, a prohibited substance, during a test after his victory at Worlds. After subsequent investigation, USADA ruled that the violation was caused by a prescribed medication, for which Galvao did not appropriately request excuse.
Galvao, who became the youngest-ever IBJJF World Champion in 2022, has been stripped of that title, which is expected to go to the lightweight silver medalist, Tye Ruotolo.
If Ruotolo is awarded the lightweight gold, following IBJJF precedent, he would become the youngest IBJJF world champion in history.
Galvao's one-year suspension began on July 22. He will be eligible to return to IBJJF competition in late July this year, after the 2023 IBJJF World Championships.
