Mica Galvão Makes Statement About Doping Suspension
Mica Galvão took to Instagram to explain his side of the story and apologize to fans after the anti-doping agency announced sanctions earlier today.
Earlier today, USADA announced that it had sanctioned Mica Galvão for a doping violation. Galvão was tested after winning the 2022 IBJJF World Championships. the anti-doping agency has stripped him of that title, and he has accepted a one-year suspension which began on July 22, 2022.
Galvão released a statement on Instagram in response to the charges:
You all already know the news and I want to explain my side now. My doctor used a banned substance in my treatment. My father and I have always tried to align ourselves with the best professionals to help my career and unfortunately that mistake happened and I accept it.
This is to my fans, the people who admire my work and my career since I was young. My most sincere apologies, I'm also upset about this situation.
I will start from zero again, for me nothing was easy and nothing will be. I came from Manaus, where opportunities are few. I fought hard to get where I am. I don't mind venturing all the way to the top again. My journey doesn't end here, it's only just begun. You will see me on the mat a lot in 2023.
Galvão has been invited to compete at BJJ Stars on April 22 in São Paulo, Brazil in an absolute bracket for $40,000, featuring 16 of the biggest names in the sport.
