The team-based grappling tournament Quintet is returning later this year, featuring squads like Team New Wave, 10th Planet, Team Polaris, and more. The announcement was made this morning by K-1, as the organization is relaunching in September with a focus on traditional striking and grappling events.
On September 10th in Yokohama Arena, K-1 will hold their first event in their 'reboot', and it will feature a Quintet tournament with four teams. Quintet is a team-against-team tournament, where you must win by submission to eliminate an opponent (or face double elimination for a draw) until one team is left standing. The event is the product of grappling legend Kazushi Sakuraba, who will also compete in the tournament.
The four teams for the event will be
- Team New Wave - Giancarlo Bodoni, Izaak Michell, Placido Santos, Reese Lafever, Abraham Lamontagne
- Team Polaris - Eoghan O'Flanagan, Owen Livesey, Mateusz Szczeciński, Santeri Lilius, Gregor Gracie
- Team 10th Planet - PJ Barch, Richie Martinez, Geo Martinez, Kyle Boehm, Amir Allam
- Team Sakuraba - Kazushi Sakuraba, Haisam Rida, Tomoshige Sera, Daisuke Nakamura, TBA
Previous Quintet events have featured grappling stars like Gordon Ryan, Josh Barnett, Craig Jones, and many more. Streaming information has not yet been released.
