Team Modolfo Adds Mica Galvao & More For December's AIGA Finals

After winning the AIGA Champion's League qualifying round but falling in their final match to Universal Fighters, Team Modolfo is reloading for December's finals with the addition of ADCC medalist Mica Galvao along with his teammates Kaua Gabriel and Felipe Machado. The teams may still change more before the final roster for December is set, but the inclusion of the three Melqui Galvao Jiu-Jitsu athletes help bolster an already stacked Team Modolfo.

Each team is allowed ten total athletes for the seven weight classes, so some of the original roster will have to be left out for the December Kazakhstan event. All three of the new additions have experience under the ADCC ruleset, which AIGA uses as their base (with some changes). It is unknown which weights they will compete at in the Kazakhstan event.

Mica Galvao is one of grappling biggest stars, with success at every level of the sport - including a silver medal in his debut ADCC World Championships in 2022. The Manaus-native has recently returned to competition on the IBJJF circuit, winning multiple tournaments in Brazil after returning from an injury in early 2023. Mica is currently ranked #2 at 170lbs and #12 pound-for-pound in no-gi.

Kaua and Felipe are Brazilian grapplers who have been gaining traction and notoriety, with both winning their brackets at the ADCC Sao Paolo Open. Kaua is a rising brown belt who went 8-1 at the event, winning his bracket and placing second in the absolute. Kaua, currently ranked #8 in our ADCC Open pound-for-pound, took second at the South American Trials in 2022. Felipe Machado, a black belt, is ranked sixth at -65kg in those same rankings after a gold medal run that included 3 heel hooks.
