The 2024 gi season is ready to start with a talented, proven list of black belts entered for the IBJJF European Championships, streaming live from Paris, France exclusively on FloGrappling. Every year, Euros brings out some of the best matches, performances, and moments of the calendar - and 2024 is shaping up to be no different.

Last year, Kaynan Duarte and Gabi Pessanha walked away as the double gold open class champions with standout performances from stars like Tainan Dalpra, Mayssa Bastos, Fellipe Andrew, Jansen Gomes, Fabricio Andrey, and more.

In 2024, three athletes have the chance to set a record for most black belt open class European gold medals - Fellipe Andrew, Tayane Porfirio, and Gabi Pessanha. All are already tied for the most ever (2, with Braulio Estima and Luanna Alzuguir) so whoever emerges can make history in the men's or women's divisions.

Another interesting factor at Euros is that this is the first place we often see rookie black belts in the mix against more established names. This year, young athletes like Rayron Gracie, Shay Montague, Kevin Alencar, and more will add a level of intrigue to the field. We have seen a lot of young athletes have their first big breakout performance at the IBJJF European Championships, and there's athletes in this field who can add to that tradition.
