Live Updates: Black Belt Day One At The 2025 IBJJF Brasileiros

It's the final few days of the 2025 IBJJF Brasileiros and we have the best action for last with some of the best in the world clashing for gold. You can catch every match exclusively on FloGrappling but if you can't tune in - we still have you covered. The men's and women's black belt absolutes and day one matches are going to be rolling all day Saturday!
We'll be updating this page through the day with all the most recent results and notable moments from the day. Most recent results at the top. We will be running a stream with commentary for any subscribers for the finals tomorrow. Running blog at the top, full match by match results are at the bottom.
Black Belt Divisions
That's it for day one here at IBJJF Brasileiros black belts. The women's finals are all set, the open finals are set, and the men's quarters are set. We'll be back with another live updates article tomorrow as matches kick off!
Only a few more weights to get through here. Rebeca Lima is able to knock off Thalyta Lima, that's her first win over a top-5 opponent and a one seed down. Now she faces Alexia Arantes, who may have just beaten the other favorite in the bracket Larissa Martins. This really is a good weight. Winner of that faces Clay. Up a weight, Maca beats Sábatha and she's into the finals. Giovanna Carniero upsets Ingridd, another one seed falls! She's got Aurelie in the semifinal, but unfortunately that's gonna be too much and Aurelie advances to face Maca in the finals.
Men's Super-Heavy QFs

Another big upset in super-heavy as Euro champ Windson Torres loses first round after a tough road in the absolute. Pablo Campos Raimundo will get the win and advance. Anderson Munis no-shows at ultra-heavy. Luis Cantereira loses again to Felipe Augusto after dropping a match earlier today in the open. After double gold in Europe, he leaves São Paulo with no medal. Lis Clay is facing the woman who beat her in an upset at Pans now, Gisele Tavares. It's close with 90 seconds left, Tavares leads by an advantage. She takes down Clay but gets trapped in a loop choke - and taps! Clay wins and clearly feels really good about it. She is in the finals.

Definitely plenty of upsets, even minor ones rolling out. Gabriel Brod beats Matheus Spirandelli. Servio is up and he does make day two. He will have Davi Vetoraci, no easy task there. In a rematch from Pans, Cassia Moura beats Maria Luiza who was the one seed here. Biggest gi win of her career to date.
Nolan Stuart is out on mat 11 but he's starting slower than he did at Pans here against Rafael Souza Trabuco. We are tied with two minutes left, 1-1 on advantages. With ninety seconds left, he finally finds his omoplata and transitions into the armbar for the win.
Speaking of Grand Slam candidates, Janaina is out on mat 10. She gets a workmanlike advantage win to make the finals and as she leaves, BSM is up in the other semifinal. Brianna gets to her closed guard early and is able to cut the angle and take the back and sink in a choke. Jansen Gomes also wins in impressive fashion in his black belt Brasileiros debut.
Men's Middle QFs

- Jefferson Goteu vs Arley Pacheco
Elijah Dorsey also up after a great run at BJJ Stars. He's, for my money, the most underrated guy in BJJ right now. He is quickly into a pass and jumps into an armbar for a highlight finish! That's the best submission I think I've seen today. On 11, his TLI teammate Angelo Claiborne is taking on Gabriel Costa. He is able to pass and spin to the back - he gets the tap! Big win for him.
Meyram no-shows his weight division after his run in the absolute. Tainan has now come out, he's taking on Gabriel Fagundes. Dalpra still searches the 2025 Grand Slam. He's doing his thing from top and chains his pass right into a finish. He's onto day two already.

Cassia is up for her quarter. Espen is out now, but trailing early after a quick takedown. Another great match coming up, Fabyury vs Tarik in a rematch of the Ocean BJJ Pro finals (Tarik won that). Cassia is five minutes in and has taken the back but her feet are slightly off so she doesn't get any points. Oddly, she does get a penalty, even though she is in a very dominant position. The advantages are enough to win anyway. Espen falls by an advantage, that's an upset.
Action coming in fast now. Cole Abate has taken the mat. This is the first gi major where he hasn't had his teammate Pato in the bracket, which I think is significant. They review Bayili for a fourth penalty for excessive talking and it's upheld. Disappointing end for the Belgian but Doederlein is moving on by DQ. Cole also wins.
Baby Shark has no showed at light-feather, he won't be in the bracket this weekend. The one seed in that bracket, Pato, is on the mats now and he racks up 11 points on his way to a mounted cross choke. Luiz Paulo in a close one now, as the 2024 World medalist is only leading by an advantage with 100 seconds left and the medics are looking at his leg.
Mayssa is out now. She's almost immediately on the back and gets the finish in under forty seconds. She's in the finals. Just incredible how dominant she is at rooster. She will face the winner of this match, Mariana Cabral and Thaís Loureiro - and after ten close minutes it is Thaís by an advantage.

João Bisnaga, Crown finalist in 2024, is taking on Diego Sodre in one of my favorite matches of the men's day one. Sodre up early on an advantage using his guard. Four minutes left, not much happening. Bisnaga able to tie things late - Sodre pulls a back take out of nowhere from his guard tho! He wins on a slim margin over a very quality opponent.
Men's Rooster QFs

Zach Kaina no-shows at light-feather, Ishiguro advances to tomorrow. Wow, early upset at light-feather! The European champion at rooster falls first round to young black belt Kleber Barboza.
The weights are now rolling out with the open classes ending. All men's elimination round matches are going to happen, along with all the women matches up to the finals.
Black Belt Absolute
We're down to our final two semifinals. Mel Cueto and Yara are battling here. Mel has short time, she's down by points but getting near a winning pass - and own't get it. Yara prevails here 12-10 to make the absolute finals. Scooby and Augusto are out now in the final open class semifinal. Scooby pulls and he's working from his closed guard. Five minutes in, still waiting on the first big action.

Men's absolute finals
- Marcus Ribeiro vs Erich Munis
Gabi is out now to take on Isa Lemos in her absolute semifinal. Lemos drops into an over under position but Gabi uses a belt grip to move into closed guard. She's able to eventually use a K guard to invert and sweep. She's up by 2 but Lemos is staying very tough here. She's able to hold on until the final 90 seconds, when Pessanha was able to secure the choke. On the men's side, Erich Munis is on one today and he is up 13-2 on Machado only 5 minutes in. He's going to win and he's into the finals here.
Men's absolute semifinals
- Erich Munis vs Pedro Machado
- Marcus Scooby vs Felipe Augusto
Here comes a couple big matches - Rider Zuchi taking on Pedro Machado and Meyram is taking on Scooby. Mey and Scoob out now. They are keeping it standing, Scooby is really respecting the judo skills of Mey. Two minutes in, both men have two negatives for passivity. The third penalty comes in but Scooby picks up an advantage for a near sweep off a pull (Scooby sweep!), so he does lead. Five minutes in, Meyram gets the takedown but Marcus gets Meyram's sleeve across the body. He climbs up and takes the back!
On the other mat, Machado will ride the two points from a sweep to make the podium and defeat Zuchi. Over on mat 1, Munis is up 10-0 and in a pressure mount - and there's the arm triangle and the tap to advance.

Women's absolute semifinals

After ten minutes of deadlocked action, Yara advances to the semifinals by decision over Mikaela Lima. Lis Clay is finally out against the much larger Maria Barboza - and Barboza works her way to 3 advantages and has control of Clay in north south. With two minutes to work, Lis finally reguards. She's down a lot on advantages, she'd need points. Barboza keeping heavy on top and Clay won't get it, Maria Barboza wins that one in a good performance from her.
Erich Munis, the favorite in the men's open, finishes his first match with an ankle lock. Somewhat rare for Munis to drop back on legs like that, always cool to see him add to his game. Marcus Scooby, who met Munis in The Crown finals last year, holds serve and also finishes by submission. Machado, the four seed, wins 8-0.
Gabi & Tayane are up now. Gabi grabs an early advantage but Tayane is getting to her passing positions, like we saw at BJJ Stars a week ago. Gabi able to scramble and come up to turtle, also very similar to their BJJ Stars match. She gets to the choke and this time there's no controversy.
Second round starting to get going as well now, with Anderson Kauan and Jefferson Goteu coming to the mats (Kauan wins by 0-0 decision). Elisabeth Clay now also making her way out against the super-heavy Maria Barboza. Rider Zuchi snatches an arm triangle to advance past Cleyton. The European open class champ Catereira also using his size and pressure to rack up points - and there's the tap when he's up 14.

Meyram also up now, he's one of the ones to watch most in this whole bracket. He scores multiple advantages on near-passes early on. I feel like I picked the wrong mat to watch because on the other one Rider Zuchi just won 22-2 and not much is happening here yet. Meyram wins two advantages to none.
Servio Tulio is also up early. He has said this will be his final tournament as an adult black belt, and he is in the open as well. Unfortunately he is unable to find the sweep in the final minute and Felipe Augusto advances. Servio has been a scrapper since day one so hopefully we can still watch more of him later.
Gabi has taken the mat - aaaand Gabi has won by submission, finishing with a mounted americana. She likely faces Tayane next round.
