Rankings according to our world gi rankings
#11 Shoya Ishiguro vs #13 Anderson Delfino
The last two European silver medalists at this weight now meet and only one will make the podium. Shoya impressed a lot of people in Lisbon by making the finals and giving Baby Shark a great match but then he stumbled at Pans. With Kaina no-showing, he's into day two. He'll see Anderson Delfino and try to knock off the Brazilian in SP, a difficult task. Delfino is also a guard player but I expect him to be working from top in this ranked matchup.
#7 Cole Abate vs #5 Diego Sodre
This is probably the headliner of the morning matches - and I feel like we have said that about Cole a lot this year. He's got Diego Sodre here, an absolute killer who has some really beautiful jiu-jitsu. The problem? He doesn't always use it, he can get stuck playing the close double sleeve guard games that produce one advantage matches (win or lose). Cole closed out at Pans and tomorrow could be his first gi major gold at black belt. Sodre is as tough as they come and always has another trick up his sleeve, you couldn't ask for a tougher test.
#4 Alex Sodre vs Cleber Sousa
Diego's twin brother Alex has a very similar scouting report; when he's opening up, he's absolutely incredible and at times looks unstoppable. When he slows down and plays things too tight, he can drop winnable matches. Here he will have Cleber Sousa, a savvy veteran in his own right who brings a prodigious squeeze for the weight class. If he can get to a pressure position, watch out.
#10 Elijah Dorsey vs Tarik Hopstock
Elijah Dorsey keeps climbing up and up these rankings and tournaments and he begins his run tomorrow with the very tough European Tarik Hopstock. Tarik has a tough guard but he will need to slow down Dorsey's movement passing to get something real started.
#7 Uanderson Ferreira vs Angelo Claiborne
These are two powerful guys at this weight! I really think this has all the makings of a fun takedown-based match. Angelo picked up the biggest win of his season yet by beating Gabriel Maranho, and he has a great shot at the upset here. Uanderson has been up and down this year but if he can get to work with his judo and top work he is a menace.
#1 Adam Wardzinski vs Gregor Gracie
The Polish Butterfly Adam Wardzinski continues his Grand Slam campaign when he takes the mats tomorrow morning. In his way, Gregor Gracie who is making his return to competition here in SP. Gregor and Adam bring an interesting style clash; both guys are really good at escaping bad positions so I think both will be forced to move a lot. Winner gets Roberto or Liberati.
