FINALS UPDATES
Men's Open Class - Erich Munis def. Marcus Ribeiro by points, 2-0
Erich Munis and Marcus Scooby meet in a rematch of the Crown finals. I think Scooby has looked better than ever this weekend, but that last meeting ended with Munis submitting him. Early pull from Munis. he's in his closed guard. He transitions to a squid grip and opens up the guard. Erich sweeps, Scooby escapes from bottom, Erich pulls again to squid. 2-0 Munis. 4 minutes, Erich now in double sleeve. Time ticking down. Erich wins, he's double gold medalist.
Women's Open Class - Gabi Pessanha def. Yara Soares by points, 2-0
Gabi back up after the monumental loss. She still could leave here a champion. She has heavyweight champion earlier today, Yara Soares. She does pick up a quick penalty for a bad pull. Double pull, Yara up. Yara passes around to turtle and will pick up an advantage (her second). Still a ton of time. Gabi reguards, working from her lapel now. She sweeps to top. On a restart and a double pull, Gabi snatches a foot but Yara escapes a deep sub attempt! Gabi back on top, she now looks like herself. One minute remains, Pessanha leads by two but if Yara can score she's up on advantages. Gabi will hold on to take home the absolute gold from the event.
Men's Heavy - Adam Wardzinski def. Leo Ferreira by advantages, 1-0
Adam Wardzinski takes on Leo Ferreira. Double pull, Adam is up and working his knee slides. Ferreira wrapping lapels from his open guard. Finally Leo stands and we reset. Leo pulls again, we're back to a similar position. 3 minutes remain, not much happening here yet in terms of scoring - they are nullifying each other's games. They reset again to the feet. Another pull to lapel guard from Ferreira. The match ends and Adam wins, not much happened but I don't think it was necessarily on him.
Men's Medium-Heavy - Jansen Gomes def. Davi Vetoraci by rear collar choke
Jansen Gomes and Davi Vetoraci are up, Jansen beat Davi's brother Matheus in the semifinal. About three and a half minutes in, looks like Davi popped his knee on a sweep attempt. We are back, Jansen passes to the back and scores his points. He snatches the neck and gets the tap.
Men's Middle - Tainan Dalpra def. Elijah Dorsey by points, 6-0
Elijah and Tainan meet in a rematch from The Crown. Elijah has looked exceptional this week, including BJJ Stars, but Tainan is a force to himself. Tainan pulls, Elijah scrambles to find position but ends up in the X guard. Elijah stepping and balancing well but he's in quicksand here - only a matter of time to the sweep if he can't get out. And he does move back to a more manageable de la Riva. Seven minutes left. Five minutes, Elijah looking better in his passing. Switching up styles a lot, double unders, loose passing, knee slides. Mostly staying safe. Tainan manages to get to the legs again, he kicks him up and moves into a cross ashi! Legal here under certain circumstances. He uses it to sweep up. 4 left, Dalpra by 2. Elijah explodes out quickly though. They are up, Dalpra pulls, Elijah nearly passes! Gets the advantage and Tainan pulls him to 50/50. Tainan wrestles up, gets a very quick 2, and pulls again. Elijah has thirty seconds but he's sitting the corner for the arm! Tainan ends up on top and clears but that was a deep bite. Another close call for a top name against Elijah Dorsey. Got to imagine that big win is coming any time now.
Men's Light - Lucas Maquiné def. Luiz Paulo by points, 5-4
Lucas Maquiné vs Luiz Paulo (LP10). After a double pull and some action, tied 2-2 with Lucas holding the advantage. Lucas sweeps again and leads 4-2, but Lucas storms back from top position with a pass! He leads with three minutes to go. Luiz reguards. He needs to score, one minute to go. He won't get it, big win here for Lucas Maquiné.
Men's Feather - Cole Abate def. Isaac Doederlein by advantages, 1-0
Cole Abate and Isaac Doederlein meet in the first black belt adult all-USA final in tournament history. Double pull, Cole comes up. Doederlein sweeps, leads by two. Cole sweeps back. 4 minutes left, very tactical so far. Time winding down, Isaac needs to get that advantage back. He cannot, Cole wins his first gi major at black belt.
Men's Light-Feather - Diego Pato def. Anderson Delfino by rear naked choke
Diego Pato is out taking on Anderson Duarte. Double pull, Anderson comes up. Pato working to the K guard and he is inverting into legs. He comes up for two with a straight ankle lock and then gets two more when they go out of bounds. It's 4-0 Pato. They restart on the feet, Anderson catches the pull and gets his first points, 4-2. Pato sweeps to top, 6-2. Delfino sweeps back but Pato jumps to the back and scores! He's up 12-4 now with three minutes left. Pato gets the face and squeezes, Anderson taps!
Men's Rooster - Rodrigo Otavio def. Yuri Silva by advantages, 1-0
Yuri Silva taking on Rodrigo Otavio. Rodrigo gets it done by an early advantage that he was able to keep the lead with throughout. Big win for the blue haired guy!
Men's Ultra-Heavy - Marcus Scooby def. Gui Soares by close-out
Men's Super-Heavy - Erich Munis def. Nolan Stuart by armbar
Erich and Nolan up so that Erich is rested up for open class finals. Double pull, Erich comes up. He snatches up another advantage for a near-pass but we are deep in this match and the guard and toughness of Nolan has been an issue for the reigning World open class champ. Ninety seconds, still no points up. Late in the match Munis finds his pass with a throw by and transitions into the armbar and gets the tap! Explosive end that doesn't capture how close it was.
Women's Super Heavy - Tayane Porfirio def. Gabi Pessanha by points, 4-0
Gabi out to take on Tayane. Tayane manages to score first, but Gabi is up and she's in turtle on top. Still trails 2-0 with 6 minutes left, now Tayane manages to wrestle back in and put Gabi back down. They give her points there on that takedown, that's the right call for how long they'd been standing. 4-0 Tayane, 5:30 left. They take a long break, I also think that's in Tayane's benefit. Halfway through now, Gabi looking for legs to invert on. Tayane staying low and slow. Gabi laces up a squid guard. 3 minutes. Tayane complaining about kicks to the face. Gabi locks into the arm but Tayane escapes and spins to the top of turtle! Are we seeing this historic upset? Tayane stalling but she's up a lot. Pessanha sprinting now to find anything. Closed guard. She is scooting to the back! She has one hook! NO! By the slimmest margin, she doesn't get it! Down goes Gabi! Tayane very emotional, understandably. Titanic result.
Women's Heavy - Yara Soares def. Tamiris Silva by bow & arrow choke
Tamiris Silva faces Yara Soares in a key heavyweight bout. Yara comes up on a double pull early and is into her passing. Tamiris gets into the legs some but Yara looking heavy on top, remember she's coming down from super-heavy. Yara gets to turtle and rolls right into a bow and arrow! Great win for her, her first major gold since 2021.
Women's Medium-Heavy - Maria Carolina Vicentini def. Aurelie Le Vern by points, 6-2
Aurélie Le Vern against Maria Carolina Vicentini ('Maca') here. Maca pulls. She sweeps her way into a front headlock. Aurélie clears but trails by a pair of advantages. They sweep back and forth. After a restart (not sure if they got the exact position right), Maca comes up to sweep. She's able to add another later, she's up 6-2 with a minute remaining. Aurelie late is working on an armbar! She won't get it but she made that match fun.
Women's Middle - Elisabeth Clay def. Rebeca Lima by points, 4-2
Elisabeth Clay taking on Rebeca Lima here at middle.. Double pull, penalties. Now twice. Back to double pull, third penalties both ways. Might be a double DQ coming. Double pull, Lima comes up for the advantage and then sits again. They sweep back and forth. With two minutes left, Clay is on top and leads 4-2. She will take gold here! Only the third woman American black belt, after Mackenzie Dern and Shelby Murphey.
Women's Light - Janaina Maia def. Brianna Ste-Marie by decision
Major one here, BSM and Janaina. Janaina has won Euros and Pans this year but BSM won The Crown. Janaina pulls. Working with a lapel as Brianna stands. Four minutes in, Janaina knocks her down with a lumberjack sweep and is well under BSM's center of gravity woth a waiter position but no sweep yet. They are jockeying grips and leg positions a lot but no major change in fortunes. The match will end there, this goes to 0-0 decision.
Women's Feather - Cassia Moura def. Margot Ciccarelli by points, 3-0
Cassia Moura searching for her first major gi title here as a rookie against the veteran Margot Ciccarelli. Cassia passes from outside and moves to an over-under. She gets the pass! Margot reguards but Cassia leads 3-0 with 4 minutes left. Margot gets to a lapel and a reverse de la worm guard, she's now got sweeps, back takes and a shotgun armbar. Cassia basically holding on here. Margot working hard to create space and find an attack but Cassia staying in chest to chest position. No penalties for stalling, though, one minute left. She gets the win, she is the Brazilian national champion.
Women's Light-Feather - Brenda Larissa def. Jessica Caroline by decision
Brenda Larissa taking on Jessica Caroline. Caroline likely the favorite. Larissa early on dropping into double unders. Caroline able to clear back into her double sleeve guard. Stall calls both ways. Now two. They are going to decision. Brenda wins!
Women's Rooster - Mayssa Bastos def. Thaís Loureiro by points, 28-0
Thaís comes up from double pull but Mayssa finds her grips. She sweeps up to top position and then passes to mount - up 11-0 early. Thaís escapes back to top and closed guard but Mayssa works right back to her double sleeve. Thaís hops on an ankle but then Mayssa wins the scramble up and passes again. 16-0. Mount. Back. 22-0, Thaís escapes again to closed guard top. She locks into a triangle, Thaís escapes. Sweep to mount, 28-0 for Bastos. She's a juggernaut at this weight. Thaís being very tough.
HEAVY SEMIFINAL UPDATES
Scooby is in two finals as well, he beats Lydvo 10-0. He's honestly looking as good as I have seen him, very athletic. Felipe Augusto and Gui Soares are our last semifinal. Soares pulls, Augusto working from top for a pass but only gets an advantage. Both men have two penalties. Augusto picks up a third penalty which gives Soares two points. He nearly passes late but loses it on the points. Controversial ending there.
Eli Braz taking on Erich Munis, Munis has all subs so far in his double gold quest. He takes the back, goes up 4-0, but Braz escapes and moves back to closed guard. Erich now sweeps to mount! Braz escapes again but it's 10-0. Nolan Stuart sweeps from his open guard to go up 2-0 and then is able to pull again after a restart against Lucas Alves. He snatches up an omoplata and gets the tap! He's into the finals.
The next match up is heavyweights. Adam is facing Liberati in a World finals rematch. Adam is working from top and very similar to Worlds is using his pressure well. He smashes his way to mount and gets the arm triangle! Leo Ferreira taking on Pedro Machado. Big opportunity for Ferreira. He pulls, Machado working from top. He inverts under and gets the sweep. When Machado comes up, Ferreira ends up out of bounds. He wants the call for the penalty, but it doesn't come. Ferreira pulls again.
Davi Vetoraci receives a forfeit from Uanderson Ferreira and advances to the finals. Jansen now taking on Matheus. They are fighting hard for takedowns, eventually Jansen pulls to closed guard. He nearly sweeps to the back, then mount, but manages to stay on top and rack up a few advantages. They scramble out of bounds and Jansen gets two as well, but they restart on the feet where Jansen pulls again, sweeps again, 4-0 with 3 left. Jansen tacks on two passes for good measure and wins it.

- Jansen Gomes def. Matheus Vetoraci by points, 10-0
Our last semifinals, from middleweight up, are about to go down. Tainan taking on Yuri Rodrigues, he's working from top early. Yuri doing a good job denying the pass but Tainan staying on him. EARLY SEMIFINAL UPDATES
Lucas Maquiné taking on Lucas Protasio. Not much happening, but then with ninety seconds left Lucas uses a sleeve grip to sweep Lucas and take the back! That was the slickest back take I have seen this tournament - crazy. He's up 4 now, Protasio escapes but he's got to make up ground. Maquiné downblocking and playing it smart here. He wins and makes the finals. On the other mat, LP10 leads Leandro Souza on advantages 3-1 and is working from top. Paulo racks up a few more advantages on near passes and back takes but can't score. He still wins.
Cole Abate out now against Guiliano Spera. Cole pulls early and gets to his X guard, comes up to leg drag, but ends up on top in double sleeve. Cole stays busy with his passing and Spera accounts well for himself with his retention but that's ultimately how the match ends, Abate advances to the final off points 2-0. Cleber up against Isaac now and both men catch a penalty for double pull. Cleber pulls and sweeps for two! He's now stacking. Isaac finally clears the stack position and is back to his open guard. Three minutes. Isaac manages to find his angle and scoots around, he's trying to take the back, he moves up to top and has one hook as Cleber stands. They give Isaac the two! We are in a backpack position but Cleber shakes him off and we're back to closed guard. Isaac leads by an advantage, ninety seconds. He's going to win, great comeback from the World Champion.
Pato out now, and in no time he has racked up a dozen points using his passing and pinning. He's toying around with an arm triangle. He adds another four mounts and takes the back with a deep body triangle, playing around with lapels as well. 20-0, he transitions to the armbar. There's the tap. Anderson and Jonathan on the other mat, nothing happening yet. With three minutes left, Anderson scores an advantage to lead. Jonathan, with short time left, snaps on an ankle lock and it's enough to draw the advantage as time expires! Decision time. Anderson Duarte wins.

World Champion Doederlein is now out and he's cruising early. So is Cole Abate and Diego Sodre. Video review takes away both that advantage and the two, but then Diego scores an advantage and Cole sweeps to top - basically we switched scores. On the other mat, Luan has it within an advantage with Isaac as ninety seconds remain. He won't get that done, though, Isaac wins a close one. Cole and Diego have two minutes left, Cole ahead by two. 30 seconds and Sodre in 50/50. Now to crab ride. Abate advances, he just managed to hold off those points. Onda being impressively stingy and not giving Pato the finish but it's enough for a 12-2 win anyway. Anderson Duarte out now against Shoya.
