What's Happening In Jiu-Jitsu

-The registration for the IBJJF World Championships, the biggest gi tournament of the year, has closed. The event will feature more than 100 grapplers ranked top-10 in the world for their weight class. Get more info here.

-As we announced over the weekend, big news is coming for the WNO heavyweight division. We need a new champion and the contenders will be announced on Monday. Everything will first drop on Instagram.

-WNO 28 announced three new matches, including the main event of Jonnatas Gracie vs Mica Galvão for the 185lb Championship. Also on the card, Kyle Chambers will face Victor Silverio and Declan Moody will face Fellipe Andrew. Ticket info here.

-Registration is now open for several ADCC Trials, including East Coast Trials. Find more information here.

-Victor Hugo was confirmed as the wildcard +99kg for B-Team at CJI 2. The Euro Trials are happening this weekend, and we got confirmation that the -99kg will be ADCC veteran Charles Negromonte. A 4-man mini tournament will set the representative at -77, -88, and +99kg.

-Mia Funegra of AOJ will be forgoing her run at brown belt Worlds and will instead make her black belt debut in the Pyramid. This move is unusual but Mia has been a major prospect for years with success at every belt level.

-Leandro Lo's killer was expelled from the Military Police a week before his trial. The man accused of his murder said that he acted in self defense and gave his own account of the event.

-Gabi Pessanha, the multi-time IBJJF Grand Slam champion, launched her own brand of haircare products.

-Want to see a cool new submission? Here's a reverse Ruotolotine that I saw at the CJI Giles Trials from Uroš Čulič. If you have the shoulder flexibility, seems great.

-A few new matches were announced for the next FPI card including Francisco Lo taking on VRMA's Enrico Said. Said is tricky and long for the weight, so could be a fun match.

Pro Grappling Rankings Updates

We updated the gi rankings, taking out anyone who hasn't competed since last Worlds and isn't signed up for this years - meeting the one year inactivity requirement. Every #1 ranked grappler will be there competing and over 100 top-10 athletes across the different weight classes.

What's Coming Up In BJJ

• May 23rd: Fury Grappling is back with another night that has some gems in there. My favorite match is probably the 135lb title fight between Junny Ocasio and Kevin Danztler, but look out for the pro grappling debut of NCAA Wrestling Champion & noted boyfriend-to-taller-woman Lucas Byrd.
• May 24th: CJI Europe Trials, The Faradinho Trials. Misfits European Team coach Faris Benlamdakem will be holding the trials for his team at -77kg, -88kg, and +99kg.
• May 29th: IBJJF Worlds begins, with colored belts during the week and Saturday & Sunday dedicated to black belts.
• May 29th: UFC FPI 11 features a really major main event, with top-2 pound-for-pound talents Adele Fornarino and Ffion Davies facing off in the main event. 
• June 13th: WNO 28 is coming back to Costa Mesa, one of the most grappling loving areas in the world. The main event will feature Mica Galvão taking on Jonnatas Gracie at 185lbs, and the heavyweight title will be on the line.
