CJI To Award New Wave $1 Million Prize Money After Controversial Team Final
Craig Jones has announced that CJI will also award Team New Wave the full $1 million grand prize after a controversial finish in the CJI 2 finals

Craig Jones has announced that Team New Wave will also be awarded the full $1 million grand prize following a controversial ending to the Craig Jones Invitational 2 team finals. The decision, coming the day after the event ended, was made in part by the event's financial benefactor to ensure fairness in a situation where the conclusion left confusion and room for debate.
Craig made the announcement in an Instagram post;
The B-Team was originally declared the winners of the event and the $1 million dollar grand prize after all five matches in the final went to a time limit draw. The matches were scored unanimously at the time as such;
- Mica GalvĂ£o x Chris Wojcik: 10-9 GalvĂ£o (New Wave)
- Victor Hugo x Vagner Rocha: 10-9 Hugo (B-Team)
- Dorian Olivarez x Ethan Crelinsten: 10-9 Olivarez (New Wave)
- Giancarlo Bodoni x Jozef Chen: 10-9 Bodoni (New Wave)
- Nick Rodriguez x Luke Griffith: 10-8 Rodriguez (B-Team)
This meant that B-Team had the last win, but New Wave had won more matches overall. The rulebook established that the tiebreaking criteria would as follows;

This left some confusion, including with the event's financial benefactor who decided to put up an extra $1 million prize for New Wave after considering what was most fair to those who had laid it on the line in the pit. By awarding Team New Wave the full purse, the promotion wants to reinforce its commitment to fairness, sportsmanship, and the continued growth of professional grappling.
It still remains to be seen if there will be more fallout from this, but we know all ten finalist athletes walk away from CJI 2 with a share of one of grappling's biggest prizes ever. The show is now exclusively on FloGrappling after airing live on YouTube, where both days got over one million views.
