Polaris 33: Team Asia & Oceania Upsets Team South America
Team Asia & Oceania won by a narrow margin against Team South America at Polaris 33, with big performances from stars like Kenta Iwamoto & Lucas Kanard

Polaris 33 delivered one of the most dramatic squads events in recent memory, as Team Asia & Oceania narrowly defeated Team South America by a razor-thin 16–15 margin after ninety minutes of nonstop action. The back-and-forth contest showcased some of the best of the regions with highlight-reel submissions and intense matches with a squads event that came down to the wire. Also on the card, English judoka Owen Livesey captured the promotion's light-heavyweight championship with an arm triangle choke win over Tommy Langaker.
Polaris, the biggest grappling super fight show in Europe, has had a ton of success with these team-based events. Each team is made up of six grapplers and both teams keep sending out grapplers until 90 minutes of match time has elapsed (with a half time at 45 minutes). Each win during that time is worth one point, and a submission nets the team an additional point.
The early stages belonged to Asia & Oceania, thanks to a crazy run from Lucas Kanard. The young Australian leg locker was on fire early, defeating Jorge Gabriel, Gabriel Sousa, and Samuel Nagai in consecutive decisions to give his team an early 3–0 lead. South America found more success as the matches kept rolling, including a run from Charlges Negromonte who tacked on points, but Asia & Oceania quickly reasserted control as Igor Tanabe scored a slick armbar and Kenta Iwamoto added crucial wins to push the halftime score to 8–5.
In the second half, South America mounted a dramatic comeback led by Gabriel Sousa. The multiple-time world medalist ripped off three straight victories - avenging a submission loss to Hejraat Rashid with an armbar, heel hooking the much larger Tanabe, and outpointing Tommy Yip to drag his team within striking distance at 12–11. Kenta and Lucas again came up clutch with important wins late to keep their team ahead as time expired.
In the promotion's -90kg championship bout, Owen Livesey was dominant in victory as he put his top game to stellar use in submitting Tommy Langaker with an arm triangle choke. The British ADCC veteran now stands as the champion of a deep division with many options for his next challenger.
