Ruan Alvarenga won three intense matches at BJJ Stars 17 Grand Prix to take home R$100,000 and the -70kg championship, capping of another successful night of jiu-jitsu in Sao Paulo. Alvarenga beat Meyram Maquine in the finals by decision after 7 razor-close minutes, after earning a pair of calculated victories along the way. In addition, athletes like Rerisson Gabriel, Rider Zuchi, and Caio Gregorio shined in super fight action.

Alvarenga relied on his wrestling and top game to navigate the ADCC-style Grand Prix, securing wins against Lucas Canto, Kalebe Pereira, and Meyram. The ADXC Champion and ADCC veteran dedicated the performance to the memory of his sister, whom he lost one month prior to this event.

In gi matches, while no title belts were defended there were still a lot of impactful matches between the best in the world. Leo Ferreira scored the upset over multiple-time World Champion Fellipe Andrew, using a late takedown for the win. That was not without controversy, though, as some felt the late action was off a fake handshake. Regardless, the Alliance black belt delivered late against the veteran and won a very important match in his young career.

Other big wins were turned in by Rerisson Gabriel, who beat Diego Sodre by decision, and Rider Zuchi, who submitted Nolan Stuart. In masters action, it was Masters World Champion Caio Gregorio picking up the impactful win over Piter Frank in a match that would later win match of the night honors.
