10 Divisions To Watch Friday At IBJJF No-Gi Pans
We found ten of our favorite brown belt divisions that fans should definitely keep an eye out for at IBJJF No-Gi Pans

The IBJJF No-Gi Pan Championships are starting in just a matter of hours, and this year’s edition is stacked with talent across the board in the colored belts. With so many divisions packed with some of the sport's best up-and-comers, it’s tough to keep track of where the biggest action will be—but we’ve highlighted ten brown belt brackets that fans should absolutely follow.
Remember, all action streams exclusively on FloGrappling - every match, every mat. The black belts begin on Saturday and run through Sunday, with brown and blue belts kicking it off tomorrow.
Adult Male Brown Belt Middleweight
Starts 10:54am CDT
Chazz Canas is the one seed here, and the JT Torres disciple is looking to finally get over the hump after a close loss in the finals here last year by a single advantage. He's athletic and technical, and when he's really on he's a lot of fun to watch. This bracket doesn't have the most household names but I'd definitely ekep an eye out for Daniel Deeder, Vinnie Barber, and Joshua Dawson.
Adult Male Brown Belt Medium-Heavy
Starts 11:18am CDT
This weight could just end up being the Marlon Tajik show - but that's a fun show to watch! He was absolutely on fire at European Trials recently, winning bronze in a deep -88kg bracket. His semifinal against Santeri was really close, some thought he won, but it's all ultimately great experience for the Atos up-and-comer from Sweden.
Adult Male Brown Belt Heavy
Starts 12:36pm CDT
Really fun division here! Dylan "Wheels" Melton is the top seed, and for his efforts he will likely draw Kingsway's Placido Santos. On the other side, I really like Enrico Said to make the finals. The VRMA brown belt won the purple belt open class last year at this tournament and he has a really strong, long, submission-oriented style. However the finals end up here, it'll be a fun one.
Adult Male Brown Belt Super-Heavy
Starts 12:50pm CDT
This weight was set to feature a major clash between Natã Tenca and Michael Pixley, unfortunately it seems that Tenca is out. Still, we have a solid division that is headlined by ADCC placewinner Pixley. His prodigious wrestling and front headlock attacks should be on full display - don't be surprised if he's hunting double gold tomorrow. If Tenca does somehow make it to the mats, his leg locking and physical power could be an issue for Pixley's wrestling-heavy style.
Adult Male Brown Belt Ultra-Heavy
Starts 12:50pm CDT
The two names that jump out in this small bracket are both big, strong standouts - Brandon Reed and Nick Hartman. Both have won a bunch of major tournaments as colored belts and this is all likely the prelude to them meeting again at Worlds. Watch out for that duck under from big Brandon, he's quick. Hartman meanwhile is the top colored belt prospect for Zenith (in my opinion) so he's bound to have a few tricks up his sleeve for this matchup.
Adult Female Brown Belt Light-Feather
Starts 12:50pm CDT
Emily Leyva will be making her brown belt major debut tomorrow, and if you like very exciting jiu-jitsu then that's great news. She's a very aggressive grappler whose intensity really stands out. With the Dream Team at Atos behind her, she is the sentimental favorite in this three-woman bracket. In her way will be Izabella Frezzo, a very talented Cicero Costha rep.
Adult Female Brown Belt Feather
Starts 11:34am CDT
This is one of the bigger divisions for brown belt women at the tournament and it's got the names to match. WNO veteran Lauren Sears snags the one seed and has all the tools to win, especially with the draw she got (first round bye, across from several tough names). On the other side, there's a very good quarterfinal possible between Laylah Watkins and Cindy Ung (Cindy has a pigtail match first). Cindy just won a Finishers qualifier to earn a future spot on WNO, so she's got a lot of momentum right now. I'd say whoever comes out of that quarter likely makes the finals with Lauren.
Adult Female Brown Belt Light
Starts 12:36pm CDT
Valentina Larrondo Peña is the one seed here, and she's won gold at no-gi majors before so be on the watch for this interesting athlete from Chile. It's a very solid bracket though, including Atos Dream Team member Jadeya Reber and Kingsway's Trinity Pun. Trinity was just announced as the WNO 30 opponent for Sarah Galvão, so she will have more eyes on her than ever.
Adult Female Brown Belt Medium-Heavy
Starts 12:52pm CDT
I'm excited to watch Peyton Letcher this season after she came away with brown belt world silver last year. I think we're looking at a bounce back, and that needs to begin with Pans. She's the one seed, but watch out for possible matchups with Luandra Barbosa (who has great results in the gi and will often will open classes) and Hannah Robinson in the finals.
Adult Female Brown Belt Heavy
Starts 12:52pm CDT
This is a small bracket but I think a really good one anyway, especially for the matchup between Greta Notaro and Hannah Griffith (younger sister of Luke Griffith). Whoever wins that will have a big advantage at No-Gi Worlds this year, where I expect both of them to be the top contenders. Rebecca Faris will also likely be in the mix here.
