What's Happening In Jiu-Jitsu
-ONE Championship announced that Marcelo Garcia will face Lachlan Giles in super fight action. This is a great match between legends, and a generational clash at the same time. Giles has described the bout as "a dream match". On that same card, Diogo "Baby Shark" Reis will face off with Daiki Yonekura for ONE's 135lb championship.
-The WNO 30 undercard is set, with four matches featuring mostly local talent. Two grapplers to watch out for are Matthew "Bam Bam" Velez (who has shined on the ADCC Open circuit) and Emily Leyva (a member of the Atos Dream Team). Read more here.
-GrappleFest 19 went down, with Adele Fornarino submitting Julia Maele in the main event to win the promotion's -65kg championship. Through the card, PSF featured heavily, with Michael Pixley, Max Hanson, Brandon Reed, and Brad Schneider all won. The next day, Fornarino would turn around and win double gold at the IBJJF London No-Gi Open with all submissions.
-IBJJF's The Crown added more athletes for the upcoming invitational tournament, including Larissa Dias, Brianna Ste-Marie, Gutemberg Pereira, and Roberto Jimenez. Find a full running list here.
-BJJ Stars announced that BJJ Stars 18 will feature Pedro Marinho vs Roosevelt Sousa for the promotion's open class championship. See the announcement here.
-ADCC announced an official code of conduct, aiming to bring a better competition environment for fans, coaches, and athletes. The general understanding is that you must treat everyone with respect and failure to do so will result in future penalties. Read the full code of conduct here.
-10x BJJ World Champion Bia Mesquita won her UFC debut at UFC Rio, securing the victory with a rear naked choke in the second round. In the main event, BJJ black belt Charles Oliveira added another submission to his UFC record-setting total, also by rear naked choke.
-IBJJF Open Round Up:
- London Open
- In addition to Adele, Martina Zola of Grapple Collective won gold at feather.
- UK's Cam Donnelly and Scotland's Shay Montague won light and light-feather gold. Both Donnelly and Montague are returning from knee injuries but had good momentum before that.
- Young black belts Zara di Tofano and Josefine Modig also won gold in their divisions, as did exciting UK-based black belt MIkael Rhaillander. Ultra-heavy Kjetil Lydvo would win double gold.
- In the colored belts, champions included France's Freddy Lele, Abdullah Nada, & Sebastian Sonntag.
- Charlotte Open
- Lucas Calado and Olivia Schauer won double gold, but only had a combined three matches along the way.
- Sacramento Open
- In gi action, Francisco Papasidero won double gold. World finalist Nolan Stuart continues his drop down to heavy and won gold.
- At colored belt, Jared Wade won middle and juvenile JP Tran won feather.
-ADCC New Jersey Open
- 13-year-old Joslyn Molina added another ADCC double gold to her collection, winning the -80 and open class
- Joshua Flores, teen student of Jason Rau, won the -65kg division, beating UFC BJJ veteran Kyvann Gonzalez in the finals
- Soon-to-be WNO debutant Matthew "Bam Bam' Velez won the -60kg division
- WNO veteran Tristan Sainz beat Australia's David Stoilescu to win the -70kg division
- Zack Ghalayini beat Cam Hurd in the finals of the -91kg division and medaled in the absolute
- Helder Jose won the men's +100kg and open class
- Nicole Mathew beat Maggy Meier to win the -60kg division
-Team Asia & Oceania for Polaris 34's squads event is set, with Lucas Kanard, Mohammad Avtarhanov, Igor Tanabe, Hejraat Rashid, Tommy Yip, and Oliver Taza.

What's Coming Up In BJJ
- October 14-16th: UWW, the same organization that does freestyle and greco roman world wrestling in the Olympics, holds the world championships for their version of grappling - every match on FloGrappling
