Main Character Jiu-Jitsu Returns To Miami With Another Stacked Card

Main Character Jiu-Jitsu returns for its eighth event with another fun card set for this Sunday, October 19th, going down in Miami, Florida and streaming exclusively on FloGrappling. This time, the spotlight shines on a 3 vs. 3 women’s team tournament, bringing together some of the most exciting up-and-coming talents in jiu-jitsu today. The card promises fast-paced action, strategic team dynamics, and plenty of opportunities for breakout performances. With each squad combining unique styles and personalities, MCJ 8 is set to highlight both the depth of women’s grappling and the promotion’s style of innovative match formats.

The tournament will have four teams, each having an athlete at 125lbs, 135lbs, and 145lbs. Everyone will face off with their opponent in their same weight class, so it's similar to a wrestling dual meet. Win two out of three and you advance, win in the finals and your team takes home the cash prize!

The rosters are:

Team Texas Defenders

  • 125lbs - Lauren Sears
  • 135lbs - Taylor Hishaw
  • 145lbs - Trinity Pun

This is probably the deepest team on paper, with every member having had world class experience. Taylor Hishaw and Trinity Pun actually recently faced off at WNO 27, so it's cool to see them teaming up here. This Austin-based squad will be tough to beat.

Team Fight Sports

  • 125lbs - Ana Diaz
  • 135lbs - Lorrayne Souza
  • 145lbs - Lia Canepa

Fight Sports always shows up tough to team events, you can tell whenever they compete how deeply they feel that energy and I think that could show up in their performance here - but they face a steep test in round one. Lorryane was recently in the Pan No-Gi finals, Ana won American Nationals no-gi, and Lia has won gold at ADCC Open but all of these are in blue belt divisions.

Team Alliance

  • 125lbs - Laura Sileci
  • 135lbs - Sophia Nordenö
  • 145lbs - Nikol Aguirre

This squad is anchored by the return of Laura Sileci, a black belt who won brown belt no-gi world gold in 2023. She's super tough but she's been away from major no-gi competition for a while so we will get a great look at where she falls now. I think she's a wildcard for something like South American Trials next year if she chooses to enter. Nordenö and Aguirre are also both experienced black belts so I would say this is definitely a really capable squad.

Team Island Assassins

  • 125lbs - Emily Nicholson
  • 135lbs - Teshya Alo
  • 145lbs - Teniya Alo

The fourth team also features a lot of firepower, with AOJ black belt Emily Nicholson joining forces with Hawaiian sisters Teshya and Teniya Alo. The Alos have an extensive wrestling base that could be a real x factor in their matches, and Emily has proven herself against the best to be very resilient and competitive.

In round one, Team Texas Defenders will face Team Fight Sports and Team Island Assassins will face Team Alliance. Winners there face off in the finals for the grand prize! Watch every match live exclusively on FloGrappling, this Sunday October 19th.
