Roberto's absence opens the door for Aitken, a 10th Planet representative and WNO veteran, to make a surprise return to the big stage. Aitken has had a lot of success in these kind of brackets before, winning the open weight EBI in 2023 with a big victory over ADCC medalist Dan Manasoiu in the finals.
Aitken last faced Jimenez earlier this year, dropping a close decision — now he steps into the very spot his former opponent vacated, with a chance to make a statement against some of the toughest grapplers in the world.
WNO 30 goes down this Friday on FloGrappling, featuring the Open Weight Grand Prix, submission bonuses, and a full night of elite no-gi action.
