BJJ Stars 18 Preview: Brazil's Biggest Show Ends The Year Strong
BJJ Stars is back with another night packed full of the best grapplers in the world, featuring champions like Pedro Marinho, Meyram Maquine, & Vagner Rocha

BJJ Stars returns to Sao Paulo with their final card of 2025 - and it's another absolutely stacked night of elite grappling action. With a Peaky Blinders theme, they will host ten matches for one of the most knowledgable and passionate jiu-jitsu audiences in the world. Returning stars and champions will be featured on the card, including plenty of Brazilians like Pedro Marinho, Fabricio Andrey, Meyram Maquine, and Vagner Rocha.
You can catch the card exclusively on FloGrappling, and it all goes down this weekend on Saturday November 22nd. Action starts 4pm central time, with commentary streams available in both English and Portuguese.
#17 Pound-For-Pound Pedro Marinho vs Roosevelt Sousa - BJJ Stars Open Weight Championship
Pedro Marinho returns to BJJ Stars fresh after winning their open weight GP earlier this year, a run that snagged him the promotion's inaugural open weight championship. Now he defends that title against the current gi ultra-heavyweight world champion Roosevelt Sousa in a matchup of two of the sport's toughest guys. Pedro looked at his best the last time out, shedding some of those complaints about a plodding style by ramping up the intensity and upper body takedowns. The submission he scored in the finals against Yatan Bueno was the cherry on top - and another giant killer performance here would remind everyone that Marinho is one of the best we have in the game. Still, Roosevelt is no normal big man either - he's one of the most versatile and mobile guys of his size we've ever seen in jiu-jitsu. I don't know who will win this one, but I expect fireworks.
#16 Pound-For-Pound Vagner Rocha vs Sergio Moraes
Vagner Rocha is used to taking on the younger generation but now he returns to Brazil to face off with someone a little more contemporary when he faces off against Sergio Moraes. Newer fans may not know Moraes but he's a two-time black belt world champion and UFC veteran who is still super involved in the sport. Vagner just watched his son win East Coast Trials and now jets down to Brazil for this showdown. BJJ Stars has a great track record of the masters match stealing the show and this may just do the same. Vagner's pace, measured style, and activity level make him the favorite here heading in. Or maybe it's just the gum?
Oliver Taza vs #11 Pound-For-Pound Fabricio Andrey
This is an unusual matchup between weight classes that brings together two guys who are always happy to throw down. Fabricio has been on fire at BJJ Stars, winning multiple grand prixs and putting on some of his most memorable performances. The throw he hit earlier this year in the OWGP is still the takedown of the year and unlikely to be beaten. The judo, rhythmic loose passing, and flying submission threats make Fabricio one of the most entertaining guys to watch and you won't want to miss this. Taza is one of jiu-jitsu's most consistent performers, always staying active against the best in the world. Earlier this year he had a good run at the BJJ Stars middleweight GP and now looks to build off that momentum here. If he can get to some of his rolling leg entries, watch out.
#16 Owen Jones vs #9 Meyram Maquine
This is probably the match with the most energy around it coming in, with brash Brit Owen Jones taking on a big challenge here by entering Meyram's territory. Maquine has been a force at BJJ Stars, with multiple deep GP runs and thrilling submission wins. He feeds off that crowd and it seems to drive even better performances out of the multi-time IBJJF world champion. Still, Meyram has to now deal with a style that is still pretty foreign (no pun intended). Owen has the modern no-gi meta down and is someone who is constantly searching out those new innovations in leg locking and other submission traps. Meyram has a limited no-gi resume and this presents a real question mark to someone usually so solid. Expect the early match to be Meyram's loose passing against Owen's guard - and who knows where things go from there.
#6 Dan Manasoiu vs #9 Yatan Bueno
Dan Manasoiu returns! He makes his BJJ Stars return in his ramp up after a while away. Dan had struggles with rhabdomyolysis that left him unable to train for a while after his ADCC bronze medal run, but now he is back and facing off with another world-ranked opponent in Yatan Bueno. Dan's best known for his smothering pressure and surprisingly deft leg locking game. Since he's still so young, don't be surprised if this time away has led to him adding to his arsenal. Bueno is another surging guy since joining the Melqui Galvao team earlier this year. His wrestling and scrambling were on point in the OWGP earlier this year and he picked up key wins there over guys like Cyborg.
#6 Medium-Heavyweight Mateus Vetoraci vs #7 Heavyweight Rider Zuchi
In one of the evening's featured gi bouts, Matheus Vetoraci and Rider Zuchi square off in a match between powerful, dynamic heavyweights. Rider won on the last BJJ Stars card with a really interesting variation of an arm triangle, submitting world silver medalist Nolan Stuart. Rider has been one of the best guys in this weight for years now and a win here could set him up for a big BJJ Stars match in 2026. Vetoraci made his name earlier this year in a big way with standout performances in the IBJJF majors, showcasing great judo, dynamic passing, and dramatic submissions. These two are going to scrap it out and it should be a great one for the fans.
