Live Updates: All The Action From 2025 IBJJF's The Crown

It's the big day, IBJJF's The Crown is here. This is the most exclusive tournament of the year, bringing together all the biggest and best champions from the sport. You can catch every match exclusively on FloGrappling but if you can't tune in - we still have you covered.

Matches begin at 12pm CDT, going down in the Pyramid in Long Beach, CA. Each division features one athlete per gym, all invited by the IBJJF for this specialty event.

We'll be updating this page through the day with all the most recent results and notable moments from the day. Most recent results at the top. We will be running a stream with commentary for any subscribers for every single match.

Finals

Men's Ultra-Heavyweight

Erich and Gustavo up in our last match of the day. Double passivity calls early. Erich pulls and is into his X guard. He sweeps, then when Batista stands he returns him down for two more. 4-0. Now Erich working from top, Batista still trying to find angles and good grips but struggling under the longer Munis. Things will end there, with Erich Munis going back to back here for the Crown.

Women's Super Heavyweight

Gabi Pessanha up against Tayane Porfirio. Gabi pulls. She drags her way to top position and is up 2-0. Gabi moves to three quarter mount. Tayane turns and Gabi takes rear mount, 6-0. Tayane escapes! So tough. She's back on top, Gabi throws the triangle. Tayane escapes. It will be a points win for Pessanha.

Men's Heavyweight

Adam Wardzinski facing Nolan Stuart. Double pull, Nolan comes up. Adam pulls to his single leg X and sweeps to top. Nolan using double sleeve to slow things down. Nolan finds his omoplata. Adam has to find a way out of his, six minutes left. Nolan scores his two points, he's leading. He gets the upset submission win!

Men's Middleweight

Andy is quick to get to work with a K guard sweep and he's on top and leading by 2 early. They reset to the feet, now Andy pulls and sweeps again 4-0. They reset again and Andy pulls again. He's back into his K guard, wrestles up, now he's on his single but they end up out of bounds. Andy adds an advantage but they end up standing again where Andy pulls - it seems like he doesn't want to mix too many takedowns with Nagai. Andy into a toe hold and he's cranking it. Jackson wants the reap call but it's not coming. Now he clears, Andy scores an advantage. Time will expire here, Andy is 2-time Crown Champion.

Women's Lightweight

Sarah GalvĂ£o now up against World Champion Janaina Lebre. Crazy bracket already, now these two have risen to the top. Janaina pulls but Sarah times it and is into north south! Janaina recovers her guard, she gives up an advantage but it was a huge effort to not give up more. Sarah now working on a stack pass. Janaina recovers to her lapel open guard. Two minutes left, Sarah into a crazy dog but Janaina closes her guard. Time will expire, Sarah GalvĂ£o is Crown champion.

Men's Featherweight

Cole Abate and JoĂ£o Bisnaga up now in the featherweight finals. Cole pulls, Bisnaga working his knee cut. Cole works his way on top, Cole now leading 2-0. Bisnaga wrestles in with a double leg, Cole hops on a straight ankle lock as he does. Joao clears that, scores his two points but then Cole sweeps back. Cole leads 4-2, time will expire, and the young AOJ black belt gets it done! His biggest gi win to date, what a tournament.

Semifinals

Men's Ultra-Heavyweight

Erich Munis and Marcos Carrozzino up now. Munis pulls. He uses his guard to sweep up into side control, he's up 2-0 and then adds two more with knee on belly. Erich ends up back on bottom in closed guard, but uses a double sleeve guard to sweep into mount. He uses the lapel for the Ezekiel choke and the win.

Final semifinal of the event, with Gustavo Batista taking on Fran Papasidero. Batisa uses an early 50/50 to get on top, he's up 2-0 early. As Fran sweeps back, Batista clears the 50/50 and stays on top. They reset, another Batista pull and sweep, he's up 4-0. Stalling calls bring us to 6-2. They reset standing. One minute left. Fran with a double leg brings us to 6-4.  Fran passes to the turtle late, Batista holds on to advance.

Women's Super-Heavyweight

Gabi Pessanha is up, she snatches the ankle lock in short order, gets the submission, and advances. She is back in the finals.

Larissa Dias taking on Tayane Porfirio. Larissa pulls, Tayane putting her pressure on with stacks. She forces Larissa into a turtle, Larissa reguards but still gives up an advantage. Tayane will ride out the last few minutes for the narrow win.

Men's Heavyweight

Adam is back up, this time against Merlin. Paulo pulls to closed guard. Adam opens things up and is working from top for smashes and knee cuts. He moves into three quarter mount and then mount for seven points. Adam rides things out from here for the points victory, he's back to the finals.

Nolan Stuart taking on Lucas Barbosa. Nolan pulls closed guard, then opens with collar sleeve. Hulk passing low. Both men pick up passivity penalties. Nolan looking for his omoplata. Hulk trying to find a pressure position. Time will expire, going to decision. Nolan takes it.

Men's Middleweight

Jackson Nagai taking on Mateus Moraes here. Moraes pulls and is into the single leg X. Nagai snatches a toe hold, they roll out of bounds, Nagai gets two and they reset. Nagai will keep maintaining in the X guard and advance to the finals.

Pedro Maia is out now against Andy Murasaki for the semifinal. Maia playing guard. He wrestles up and sweeps, he leads by 2 but Murasaki quickly answers with his X guard sweep to tie. We're into the 50/50, they clear and Andy scrimmages up into top half guard. Maia escapes and stands. Back to a decision. Andy takes it again, he's back in the finals.

Women's Lightweight

Bia Basilio and Janaina Lebre facing off in a battle of world champions. Lebre pulls and is working her open guard. Janaina closes the guard. Halfway through now, both get passivity warnings, tied score. Another penalty. Janaina sweeps and works up to a front headlock. Bia clears, no scores. Lebre pulls, she shoots a triangle! They end up out of bounds but she has an advantage now. They review the sequence and decide Bia deserves two points for the sweep. She is leading! Now Lebre sweeps up on top and takes the back, but Basilio rolls out of bounds. They give Basilio a penalty for that, which gives Lebre the two she wanted - plus the sweep in the sequence. 4-2 Lebre. She will win it and is into the finals.

Sarah and Cassia up now in a pivotal clash. Cassia pulls. Ninety seconds in, both get a penalty for passivity. Sarah looking to pass from the feet, keeping her pressure solid as Cassia works hard to reguard. Sarah into a knee cut position. Ninety seconds, feels like Sarah has controlled pace. Cassia is able to get into the legs now, Sarah into the splits. She clears as time expires, it's going to decision. Sarah wins, she advances to the finals against the World Champion.

Men's Featherweight

Eduardo Granzotto and JoĂ£o Mendes in our first semifinal of the day! Mendes in his guard, Granzotto passing from the feet. Few minutes left, both men catch penalties for passivity. Mendes in his X guard and he will sweep up but can't establish anything and sits back down quickly. Time for another decision - and it's Bisnaga again, who is into the finals with a pair of 0-0 decisions.

Kennedy Maciel and Cole Abate up now. Double pull, no one comes up so penalties. Double pull again. Penalties again, two each now. Double pull, now Cole comes up and nearly passes which nets him a two advantage lead. Cole working to pass from his feet, Kennedy playing guard but having trouble connecting much. Cole gets the win, he's into the finals!

Quarterfinals

Men's Ultra-Heavyweight

Erich Munis is here to defend his Crown title. He is facing Paulo Lanziliotti and scores the pass early. As Paulo reguards, Erich snatches the brabo choke and will get the early submission to advance.

Guilherme Avelino and Marcos Carrozzino are up now, neither man wants to accept bottom position. Carrozzino snaps Avelino down and spins behind for two points. He breaks him down from turtle and uses the collar choke for the submission win.

Gustavo Batista and Elder Cruz are up now. Both men are light for this weight but game. Gustavo wrestles up to a rear body lock. He puts him down, Elder recovers his half guard, and now Batista leads by 2. Elder gets back to his feet, Batista pulls and sweeps for two more. Elder stands, Batista has one hook. He sinks in the choke and gets the win by submission.

Pedro Lucas and Fran Papasidero are now in the last quarterfinal of the day. Pedro uses a single leg to get on top and leads 2-0. With 2:30 left, Fran sweeps up on top and is into a strong top half position. He snags the arm triangle, passes, and gets the submission win!

Women's Super-Heavyweight

Gabi Pessanha is up, she snatches the ankle lock in short order, gets the submission, and advances. That is the first submission of the session.

Maria Vicentini taking on Tayane Porfirio. Tayane able to get to some strong smashing positions and she's into the side control and up 3-0. Maca will recover the guard but Tayane is so hard to move. The match will end there, Tayane wins on points.

Maria Alencar taking on Izadora Cristina. Maria works into a leg drag and then passes to turtle. She has one hook and sits around, she's working for the choke finish at the same time. She transitions to the arm and gets the tap with a shoulder lock from the back!

Giovanna Carniero and Larissa Dias now up to finish the round for the women. Giovanna pulls and is on double sleeve. Larissa uses her knee slide pass and moves into side control. She's up 3-0. Larissa mounts and uses the cross choke to get the submission win!

Men's Heavyweight

Adam Wardzinski is out now, returning from his brief retirement, to face Igor Tanabe. Tanabe pulls and he's using lapels early. Adam doing his best to smash. Late, Tanabe uses that lapel to sweep his way to top! Two minutes, he leads by 2. Adam sits up and foot sweeps his way to the top position! He now is on top in turtle with points tied. He sinks the hooks in, he's up 6-2. Adam will get the win in his return match.

Lucas Barbosa taking on European Champion Windson Torres now. Both men insisting on keeping things standing for now. More standing, we're over halfway now without hitting the mat. With three minutes left, both men have 3 penalties and Hulk finally pulls. This is going to decision without much action to judge. Hulk gets the hand raise and will advance.

Robson Chaves is here now to face Nolan Stuart, Robson pulls quickly. Robson working from his open guard as Nolan passes from the feet. Nolan moves to side control and now knee on belly, racking up 5 points early. Another pass, Nolan is showing off his top game in this one. 

Mateus Rodrigues and Paulo Merlin out now, I think this is one of the best early matchups here. Paulo pulls, he shoots omoplata early. Paulo is cranking on the arm and using the legs to improve his position. We have been here a few minutes, so it seems unlikely Mateus will tap, but he's stuck for sure. Mateus finally rolls and he gives up bottom side control. Paulo up 2-0. He will control his way to the win.

Men's Middleweight

Luiz Victor taking on Jackson Nagai here. They are into 50/50 and trade sweeps back and forth to even things up at 4-4, with Nagai on top. It's a decision after ten minutes and Nagai takes it.

Mateo Cardona and Andy Murasaki up here at middle. Andy into his X guard but they go out of bounds. As they reset in the middle, he's able to work back into the legs. As they go out of bounds, Murasaki gets on top. Scoreboard still doesn't show the points but Andy on top and working his passing. Now late, Cardona hops on an ankle lock. We go to decision... and it's a split for Murasaki. He advances after an unexpected close one here early.

Pedro Maia taking on rookie black belt Danylo Wruck. Maia pulls. A few minutes in he finally wrestles up, Danylo tries guillotine but gets back up when it doesn't connect. Now he's in a quad pod with Maia trying to break him down. He will score the takedown and get back to his guard. Wruck won't be able to pass, Maia advances.

Mateus Moraes now facing José Steve in a battle of young black belts looking to break out here. Steve gets to his guard and comes up early for two. They trade sweeps, now 4-2 Steve. It's a clean mat as they keep sweeping back and forth, and things will end 6-6. Decision time... Moraes gets it.

Women's Lightweight

Elisabeth Clay vs Bianca Basilio up early. Clay pulls closed guard, Basilio opens and passes early. Clay recovers but Basilio up 3-0. Clay uses the double sleeve to sweep but Basilio sweeps back, 5-2. Basilio gets a penalty for passivity. They get into 50/50 and sweep back and forth, but that early pass will be the decider.

Sarah GalvĂ£o taking on defending Crown champion Brianna Ste-Marie. Sarah pulls closed guard, then uses a muscle sweep to get on top and is working from 3/4 mount. BSM recovers her way back to knee shield and then open guard. She's using a lapel, down by 2 points and an advantage. Sarah smashes an octopus guard attempt to get to north south, she's up 5-0. Sarah now working from turtle, trying to find a finish with a few minutes left. She snatches two more points with knee on belly and then in the final twenty seconds scores the submission with a collar choke! Sarah advances.

This is my most anticipated division! Cassia vs Thalyta up now. Cassia pulls. She's working from double sleeve, nothing happening for a score. Now she closes the guard. As Thalyta opens the guard, Cassia wrestles up and scores the sweep to lead by 2. She will spend the rest of the match hunting hooks but can't connect, even still Cassia scores the win over the middleweight world champion (as a light-feather!).

Sabrina Gondim taking on World Champion Janaina Lebre. Janaina pulls. Sabrina passes but Janaina recovers, it's still an advantage. Janaina inverts on to a leg, Sabrina clears it. Few minutes left, now Janaina inverts again and manages to wrestle up to the back! She settles for top north south after an escape but is leading with ninety seconds left.

Men's Featherweight

Ademir Barreto scores an early advantage on a single leg and leads against Granzotto. Granzotto now on top looking to pass against the double sleeve. Both men rack up some penalties. Barreto works his way back to his feet, less than a minute now. Granzotto uses a single leg to work his way to the back late! They only give an advantage at first, it's being reviewed. Granzotto gets the win over the world silver medalist! Bisnaga vs Granzotto next round.

Kennedy Maciel and Marco Mendes are also up in another ranked battle here at feather. They trade advantages on near sweeps, now Maciel scores another on a foot lock attempt (and then another). One minute left, Kennedy playing guard and Mendes trailing several advantages. Kennedy will win and advance to face Cole Abate in a rematch from Euros.

We are underway at the IBJJF Crown! Cole Abate vs Danilo Moreira and JoĂ£o Mendes vs Keven Carrasco up first. After ten minutes, JoĂ£o will win the 0-0 decision over Keven after being unable to break through the double sleeve guard. Cole use his x guard to sweep up to top and Danilo sweeps back. With under 15 seconds, Cole sweeps up one more time and will win on points to advance to the semifinals.
