The ADCC Asia & Oceania Trials delivered some incredible action as some of the region’s best grapplers battled for a coveted spot on the sport’s biggest stage, ADCC Worlds. With only one ticket available in each men’s division, stakes were high and the athletes delivered in a big way. From breakout runs to statement victories, these Trials produced a new wave of contenders who now have officially secured their place at the ADCC World Championship.

Even though he wasn't the biggest story coming in, I think the MVP of the tournament has to be Atos's Nico Maglicic. He won -99kg, the deepest division at the tournament, with all submissions and qualified himself for the Worlds in dominant fashion. Nico has certainly shown flashes of brilliance in his young career so far, most notably with a win over the hulking +99kg Josh Saunders.

At -77kg, it was Izaak Michell coming out on top of the day's most anticipated final with a key decision win over 2-time Trials Champion Kenta Iwamoto to qualify down at a new weight. This is Izaak's third Trials win at three different weights, which is a record for the region. Both men had a look at each other's back and push hard for the duration, with the Australian getting the nod. This is Izaak's third trip to ADCC and his new shift in weight may set him up for his deepest run yet at the tournament - though -77kg will be a plethora of talent.

Jozef Chen is heading back to ADCC Worlds after his second Trials victory (he won European Trials in 2023 at -77kg), impressing with a submission in the -88kg finals after going up 12-0. Jozef showed off improved wrestling and power through his run, though it remains to be seen if the move to -88kg is permanent.

Relative jiu-jitsu unknown Ryoma Anraku (registered under the team Bad Ass Mother Fucker) battled his way to first place at -66kg, winning every match by decision or points in a tournament run that showcased his cardio, grit, and heart. Ryoma is a wrestler by background who has represented his country of Japan at the senior Asian Championships (which is a very important tournament in freestyle wrestling), taking third. He's also had significant age level success, with a medal at the 2022 U23 Worlds. His takedowns and mat sense make him a real wildcard at this weight.

Tito John Carle will be going to ADCC for the first time after a stellar run through the unlimited weight, snapping on a submission in the finals to officially qualify himself. Tito has been having a great back half of the year, with gold medals here and at IBJJF No-Gi Europeans.

This is the third of eight ADCC regional qualifiers, with two occurring in four separate regions around the world. We know officially know fifteen of the people who will be there at ADCC Worlds in Krakau, Poland - September 12th & 13th.
