What's Happening In Jiu-Jitsu

-WNO 32 is set to feature a four man 155lb bracket for the now-vacant lightweight title, featuring Dorian Olivarez, Deandre Corbe, Max Hanson, and Julian Espinosa. The champion Diego Pato amicably agreed to vacate his title while he pursues another IBJJF Grand Slam.

-Victor Hugo won the IBJJF Absolute GP, defeating Pedro Marinho in the finals of the 8 man bracket. It was a packed night of action, featuring matches from blue to black belt. Find the full results here.

-The black belt matches at the GP saw Cole Abate defeat Will Wilson, Helena Crevar submit Aghata Rabelo, Sarah Galvao submit Maca Vicentini, Ashlee Funegra submit Yasmyn Castro, and Mateo Cardona beat Leo Souza.

-Craig Jones pledged a total of $48,000 towards women's medalists at ADCC 2026 Worlds, bringing the pay in all weight divisions to the same amount.

-UFC BJJ's Claudia Gadelha confirmed that their exclusive athletes will not compete at any other events like ADCC Worlds after 2026. UFC BJJ champion Mikey Musumeci was vocal about defending the policy.

-Dante Leon is set to face Kenta Iwamoto at ONE Fight Night 42 on April 10th in 170lb action.

-Rafael Lovato Jr and Vagner Rocha are set to face off at Thug Trials 3, May 9th in Miami, FL. This will be the first time these two living legends have faced off, despite both being so active for so many years.

-UFC BJJ announced a trio of matches for next Thursday's event. Nick Rodriguez will take on Elder Cruz in a rematch, Jasmine Rocha will face Ana Rodrigues in a rematch from ADCC Trials, and Manuel Ribamar will face Caio Vinicius.

-PGF Season 9 starts this week, going down at 175lbs. Watch the whole regular season on YouTube every Wednesday.

-GrappleFest 20 went down in the UK with nearly all submissions on the main card. In the main event, Ben Bennett stunned Jacob Couch with a submission upset win to become the -90kg champion for the promotion.

-Roger Gracie warned against Olympic inclusion, fearing that bending the sport to fit the rigidity of the Olympic system could 'kill' the martial art.

-Jorge Masvidal is set to have a grappling match against fellow UFC veteran Shara Magomedov at Hype Fighting on March 11th in Brazil.

-Andy Murasaki announced his move to Art of Jiu-Jitsu in Costa Mesa, CA.

-The IBJJF was busy with Opens in Orange County & Curitiba.

  • At the OC Open
    • Luiz Victor of Marcio Andre won double gold, capturing medium heavy and an open class with 19 people in it.
    • Tarcisio Santos beat Mateo Cardona in a match between sensational rookie black belts.
    • Atos's women black belts had a great tournament with golds from Sarah Galvao, Lillian Marchand, and Raniele Alencar (double gold).
    • Champions also include Marcos Gomes, Cleber Sousa, Fabyury Khrysthyan, Paulo Merlin, Aghata Rabelo, and Yasmyn Castro.
  • At the Curitiba Open
    • After a close out in the open class finals, there were two double golds in the men's divisions with both Luis Cantereira and Rider Zuchi both capturing divisions and the open class finals.
    • Ingridd Alves won double gold, both heavy and open class.
    • Champions include Gabriel Galvão, Alex Sodre, Vinicius Liberati, Maria Luiza, and Giovanah Oliveira.
