Polaris 36 Live Updates
Polaris Men's Lightweight Championship - #16 Ethan Crelinsten vs Shaï Gerena
Shai pulls fast, he inverts onto a leg and Ethan sits to stay safe. They continue to pummel from double seated, now Ethan comes up. Ethan passes to turtle, then takes the back - there's the choke and he finishes the match!
Polaris Women's Openweight Championship - #4 Kendall Reusing vs #5 Anabel Lopez
Round one. Anabel jumps closed guard. Kendall stays standing and breaks the guard open. She passes to turtle, then as she takes the back Anabel rolls. Kendall into 3/4 mount, then mounts. She gets the armbar and the tap! Kendall looked as good as I've ever seen here.
Polaris Men's Featherweight Championship - #14 Gianni Grippo vs #10 Owen Jones
Round one in our first title match. Owen working underhooks and knee picks early and manages to take down Grippo in the first minute. Gianni now playing his De La Riva and off balancing Owen. Owen clears and is on his loose passing. He's looking great switching sides, but still lots of match left. Gianni stands, Owen sits him back down with a single leg. Gianni pummels into waiter position but Owen clears, round ends there. 10-9 Jones across the board.
Round two. After a minute of hand fighting Gianni pulls. Owen staying low and passing on the outside, Gianni trying to suck him into K guard engagements. Gianni uses waiter, Owen snaps on an armbar as a counter but Gianni hitchhikes his way free. Owen transitions into 50/50, a position both men excel in. Gianni on top, trying to kick the leg over. Owen controlling two legs from bottom. Gianni clears and is now pressuring into Owen's open guard. Owen finds his own waiter position but Gianni clears and the round ends. 20-18 Jones.
Round three. Gianni pulls and wrestles up. He puts Owen down and Owen is stuck underneath trying to find a leg. He actually has something, a modified bear trap like position that is keeping Grippo from doing too much here. As Gianni steps around, Owen goes into reverse closed guard and then enters a leg as Gianni stands. Gianni clears. Gianni briefly attacks a kimura but Owen rolls away to clear. Gianni bringing heavy pressure with one minute left. As time is expiring, GIanni holds a strong front headlock but it won't be enough. Jones is the new Polaris featherweight champion.
Middleweight Bout - PJ Barch vs Shane Fishman
Shane pulls, PJ engaging with low passes. He breaks into a body lock from half guard but Shane reestablishes position. PJ mixing things up and not forcing anything, Shane doing well to flurry from bottom. Barch into another body lock with a minute to go. He gets to 3/4 mount but Shane keeps sliding under to threaten a scramble - and he escapes and reguards. Round one ends there, the open scoring goes 10-9 to Barch on 2 out of 3 cards.
Round two. Shane wrestling more now, but he eventually pulls. Barch into a thigh drag, then a body lock pass. Fishman clears, PJ continues putting on pressure and forcing his match style. Shane starts entering a leg, moves to waiter guard, and PJ jumps out over the top to escape. Round two will end, all three judges give that one to Barch.
Round three begins, Fishman will need a submission to win. Shane pulls, PJ passing tight with another body lock. PJ pummels to side control and jumps over Fishman for a near back take. Shane rolls to regain guard. Round three ends and PJ Barch wins by decision.
Middleweight Bout - Ross Nicholls vs Sam Gibson
Two of the UK's best here. Ross pulls. Nice scramble where Ross inverts onto a leg but then Sam counters into his own entry. Both men clear and stand back up. Sam pulls, Ross falls back on an achilles and then a shoulder crunch attempt before the round ends.Roun
Round two. Ross pulls. He's working from a half butterfly with a far arm drag grip. Ross finally elevates Ross into an X guard and Ross accepts bottom position after going overhead. Ross falls back onto a leg again before the round ends.
Round three, Sam pulls. Ross working through the guard with heavy lead knees. Sam shoots up and ends up deep in a guillotine. As Sam moves into a front headlock grip, Sam is bleeding and they stop things for the medical team to step in and clean it up. Things restart and they scramble out the final minute but it'll be Nicholls getting his hand raised.
Bantamweight Bout - Sarah Galvão vs Libby Genge
Sarah works her way to a body lock early, when Libby tries to throw her way out of it Sarah takes the back. Libby fights off a few deep strangles and manages to ride out the round.
Round two begins. Libby being a lot more selective now, moving her feet a lot. Sarah snatches a front headlock, throws Libby over the top with a sumi gaeshi, but Libby manages to clear and end up on top in closed guard. After a few minutes of careful action, Sarah throws up a triangle choke from a Williams guard. Her legs are crossed the 'wrong' way but she uses a kimura for the tap anyway.
