What's Happening In Jiu-Jitsu
-The 2026 ADCC Asia & Oceania Trials are done and with them, the final slate of Trials champions who will be at the Worlds in September. The champions are;
- -66kg: Bekzat Kapashov, Kazakhstan
- -77kg: Kaya Rudolph, New Zealand
- -88kg: Roberto Dib Frias, Australia
- -99kg: Daniel Schuardt, Australia
- +99kg: Belal Etiabari, New Zealand
- -55kg: Kanae Ikeda, Japan
- -65kg: Nadia Frankland, Australia
- +65kg: Matilda Reid, Australia
-ADCC Dallas Open went down over the weekend. The absolute champions of the event were Brandon George and Rana Willink, other advanced champions included Helena Crevar, Francisco Lo, Anthony Robinson, Janette Gloger, and Joslyn Molina
-Finishers BJJ aired a live charity show over the weekend from the USS New Jersey, a decommissioned battleship. The show, which supported the We Defy Foundation, featured four title matches and can still be viewed on our YouTube channel.
-The PBJJF Pan American Championship went down over the weekend. They will be back with their South Brazilian Championship, live again on FloGrappling.
-Polaris 38 announced three more grapplers for their July 11th 77kg Grand Prix; PJ Barch, Michael Liera Jr., and Sebastian Patyk. Also on the card, Ireland's Zara Di Tofano will face Sarah Galvão for the promotion's bantamweight title.
-BJJ Stars officially announced the anticipated super match between James Ortiz & Nicholas Vieira for BJJ Stars 19. Both of these sixteen year old athletes won national-level championships and will now clash in a battle of next generation stars. Also on the card will be master's match, Suyan Quieroz vs Marco Barbosa.
-Mica Galvao returned to competition for the first time in 2026, winning double gold at the IBJJF New Jersey Open (medium-heavy and open class). Mica is still projected to be at the ADCC World Championship this year in the -77kg division.
-IBJJF will be back on FloGrappling this weekend with two events, the American Nationals and No-Gi Brazilian Nationals.
-Bia Mesquita kept her undefeated MMA record intact with another first round submission, this time at UFC Fight Night: Kape vs Horiguchi when she armbarred Melissa Dixon.
-Disgraced jiu-jitsu instructor Alcenor Alves was sentenced to 178 years in prison for his abuse of at least one dozen children. He was arrested in November 2024 and has been imprisoned since in the Amazonas.
-Jed Hue will face Gabriel Sousa at Grapple Worlds, November 7th in England for that promotion's -70kg championship.
-Meyram Maquine has signed a deal with ONE Championship to appear on future shows in jiu-jitsu matches. Athletes he could potentially face include Cole Abate, Fabricio Andrey, and Dante Leon among others.
