What's Happening In Jiu-Jitsu
-It's ADCC World Championships week! Going down in Krakow, Poland, things will kick off Friday with the live bracket reveal on YouTube, happening 2pm CST. The event will kick off at 3am CST on Saturday and Sunday.
-In ADCC news, Mateusz Mazur has stepped in on short notice at -88kg to replace Pedro Marinho - who was forced to withdraw with injury. This will be Mazur's ADCC debut. Also stepping in short notice will be Nia Blackman at +65kg in her second appearance at ADCC Worlds, representing Barbados.
-IBJJF Masters Worlds & Jiu-Jitsu Con was another huge success, with so many great matches, performances, and moments. For any fans of BJJ who have never been - try to make it in person to Jiu-Jitsu Con. If you're enough of a fan that you're reading this, you'll have an incredible time.
-Congratulations to Megaton Dias, who extended his own record with his 20th World Masters Championship, this at Masters 7 lightweight.
-Three performances worth noting at Jiu-Jitsu Con; Hazel Butcher-Salazar went 7-for-7 on subs to win double gold in the gi as a rookie black belt (against mostly world ranked opponents). Emily Leyva beat #1 ranked Ashlee Funegra on an advantage in a razor close match. Tarciscio Santos won double gold in another strong showing for the young World medalist.
-Eddie Bravo announced a major change to EBI OT rules - escaping grapplers must now get to a defensible position or fully escape to be considered out. Something like giving up mount to escape the back will not end the timer.
-IBJJF's The Crown, the premier invitational gi tournament of the year, has announced several more participants. They include Rafael Gamba (men's middle), Nikolett Kis (women's light), Yara Soares (women's super-heavy), Seif-Eddine Houmine (men's ultra-heavy), and Joao Mendes (men's feather).
-Polaris 39 will officially go down October 3rd in Doncaster, England. On the card will be Callen O'Mahoney vs Franco Tenaglia and Shye Lilly vs Julia Livesey.
-PGF has added an 8th official team, the Dallas Mustangs. Theya re owned by Carlos Machado and his wife Lindsey.
-Tayane Porfirio has had an adverse testing from one of her samples at IBJJF Worlds. As a result, her double silver medals from the event will be stripped, but her suspension was minimal.
