What's Happening In Jiu-Jitsu
-The ADCC World Championships went down in Krakow, Poland, with ten gold medals given out across the event. So much history was made over those two days. The winners are;
- Men's -66kg: Kennedy Maciel
- Men's -77kg: Magomed Dzharbaev
- Men's -88kg: Pawel Jaworski
- Men's -99kg: Luke Griffith
- Men's +99kg: Victor Hugo
- Open Class: Felipe Pena
- Super Fight: Yuri Simoes
- Women's -55kg: Jasmine Rocha
- Women's -65kg: Ana Carolina Vieira
- Women's +65kg: Helena Crevar
-There's a lot of history worth noting at this ADCC but we'll only list a few. Let's start with Poland, the host country of the event, crowning their first medalists in -88kg champion Pawel Jaworski and -77kg bronze Mateusz Szczecinski. Pawel was also the first men's champion from Europe in 23 years, since Jon Olav Einemo.
-ADCC had their youngest medalist ever, 14 year old Joslyn Molina at -65kg who won bronze with a points win over Mo Black. Molina was also the youngest to ever compete at ADCC Worlds by a two year margin.
-Helena Crevar became the youngest women’s champion in ADCC history, winning gold at only 19 years old in the +65kg division. She was also the first women to submit her way through the tournament.
-Felipe Pena became the first ever 2x champion in the ADCC open class, having also won in 2017. He will take on Yuri Simoes in the 2028 super fight.
-Jasmine Rocha became the first member of the Rocha family to win ADCC Worlds, it is the fifth straight ADCC Worlds with a member of the Rocha family medaling.
-Kennedy Maciel's win makes him and his father Rubens "Cobrinha" Charles the first father-son duo to win ADCC Worlds. Charles won in 2013, 2015, & 2017. This is Maciel's second medal after a silver in his debut.
-Anabel Lopez (silver, +65kg) and Ana Mayordomo (bronze, -55kg) became the first medalists at ADCC Worlds from Spain.
-Mark Macqueen became the first British male athlete to medal at ADCC Worlds, taking bronze at +99kg.
-Luke Griffith became the first ADCC World Champion from South Africa since Mark Robinson won +99kg in 2001. Jozef Chen, also officially representing South Africa, won bronze at -88kg.
-Ana Carolina Vieira became the first repeat women's World champion at ADCC since Gabi Garcia.
-Magomed Dzharbaev became the first Russian to win ADCC Worlds since Karimula Barkalaev won -88kg in 1999. Ruslan Abdulaev, also of Russia, won a bronze medal in the absolute.
-Marlon Tajik is Sweden's first ADCC medalist, winning silver in the -88kg division. Tajik also placed 4th in the absolute.
-IBJJF announced several more participants for The Crown. They include:
- Rafael Gamba, men's middle
- Nikolett Kis, women's light
- Vinicius Liberati, men's heavy
- Hazel Butcher-Salazar, women's super-heavy
- Will Wilson, men's feather
- Helder Rodrigues, men's ultra-heavy
- Jose Steve, men's middle
- Elisabeth Clay, women's light
- Leo Ferreira, men's heavy
-Ocean BJJ Pro has announced their slate of special guest grapplers at this weekend's event in Italy (streaming on FloGrappling). These are grapplers invited to join a list of Trials winners who have earned their spot in tournaments around Europe. They are;
