ADCC 2015: By The Numbers
ADCC 2015: By The Numbers
By the Numbers. FloGrappling presents ADCC 2015 with various statistics including how many matches ended in submission, what was the most common used technique, etc.
It's easy to lose yourself in the action when watching a big grappling tournament, and ADCC offered plenty of drama for those who tuned in or were in attendance. There was the heartfelt (close friends Rodolfo Vieira and Joao Gabriel were both in tears at the end of their emotional match) and the dramatic (any of the 40 minute wars we were given, especially that of Rodolfo vs Felipe Pena).
With so much excitement, it's good to step back and take a look at the numbers to try and objectively analyze the event as whole.
There were a total of 33 submissions, meaning 28.9% of all matches ended by submission.
There were 8 rear naked chokes, making it the most common submission of ADCC 2015.
The categories with the most submissions were the 66kg and 99kg weight divisions, both with 6 out of 16 matches being finished by the competitors.
The most points scored in a single match, and the highest point margin of the tournament, was 170 (Joao Gabriel Rocha vs Jason Lees, opening round of the +99kg division).
There were a total of 9 lower body submissions, with 6 heel hooks, 2 toeholds and 1 kneebar.
Of the 2 triangle chokes, none were "standard" variations. Abraham Marte scored a no-arm triangle on Juskowiak Mateusz, while Felipe Pena used a reverse triangle from top position to tap out Jimmy Friedrich.
Quickest submission was Eddie Cummings' heelhook victory over Asadulaev Surkhayv at a blistering 23 seconds.
